Speaking of Croatian humor. . . years back there use to be two guys. . . young. . maybe in their 30's on. . . I think it was Saturday nights. . . and one had a high pitched voice. . . I could only understand very little Croatian at the time. . I mean hardly a word. .. and this show had me in stitches. . they were so funny. Dang, I can't remember the name of the show. . . and I wonder where they went? Can any one remember the name of this show?
Actually I saw the blond one in front of Italian Union in Pula one day. Wanted to acknowledge him. . but some friend whisked him off before I could. . . I really liked that show. . . it was just good fun. .. humor can be universal.

Slatkica, oh you're breaking my heart. Mujo and Haso are Bosnian, and Muslim to boot! Oh my god! Father Ted is..............Irish, and 10years ago it came on Candian TV, and I got our team into watching it, it was pure mule to be able to Feck and Drink our way through games! The pure genius was using the Irish Feck so often on British TV and nobody complaining, I had to explain to a former colleague that it was actually f@&k in disguise! Beautiful! I think British and Irish humour is very similiar, maybe because there has been so much criss-crossing of cultures and styles - Billy Connolly is priceless, Rab C. brilliant, They think it's all over - gold, Drop the Dead Donkey - cool, New Statesman, Only Fools and Horses, Yes Minister/Prime Minister, and even Naked Camera (just stunningly, cringingly good), Brasseye - oh god, I love those shows! Porridge, Open All hours, so good. I've yet to warm to what passes as humour on tv here, stand up doesn't seem to happen, and theatre comedies are better. But NMK? It just doesn't float, it's a very pale imitation of Only When I Laugh. I LOVE Mujo i Haso! Also I think vecernja skola is great! Though British comedy is top league, I love the quick thinking lines- plus the fact that Americans rarely ever get it!! Many Croat's don't understand self deprecating humour, they'll laugh as long as it's not aimed at them. They're a sensitive lot. bless em.

Many Croat's don't understand self deprecating humour, they'll laugh as long as it's not aimed at them. They're a sensitive lot. bless em. Wrong. Quite opposite, that humour is actually how it would be described cro humour Well, it depends on the region. The only regions having ok humor are Slavonia and Dalmatia, and while Slavonian humor is very dark and down to earth, Dalmatian is a bit lighter and more centered on self ridicule. I think both are influenced by Bosnian humor. Zagreb humor is mostly centered on ridiculing migrants and is usually dull and spiritless, while Zagorje humor is full of spirit(s) having mostly to do with self ridiculing their drinking habits. Istrians don't have humor, they're a too cheerful lot. .

I think you'll find they don't mind joking about other regions, nations, colours (they haven't gotten to outlawing racist jokes yet!), religions. But whoa forbid anyone from outside poking fun - as a Slovenian comedian ofund to his cost in last years comedy festival in Zagreb when his and other Slo reg cars were vandalised after he did a 5min spot (for the 2nd time in 2 days) on Croatian land grabbing. Not funny for him at all at all! Many Croat's don't understand self deprecating humour, they'll laugh as long as it's not aimed at them. They're a sensitive lot. bless em.

Zagreb is just one town, not region as Slavonia or Dalmatia or Istia.... If we go by town humour, each town has it's own characteristic humour. Zagreb, as every capital town in the world, it's population is made of immigrants. There is very little 'real' zagreb people (zagrepcani) in Zagreb. It's more of a city than a town. And it's culture and tradition are rich enough to compare it to regions. As for 'real' town/city people, this country was 90% rural 50 years ago and most citizens of any town haven't been there longer than a generation. .

Humor would have been present if that Slovenian had made fun of Croatian mentality and it's flaws. .

The jokes were along the lines of "My mother is from Zagreb, my father used to complain non-stop that she was stealing the bedclothes" "He's from Maribor, so he took the food money and refused to release it saying that it had been originally surced pre-marriage" His routine contained 5mins (on 2 days) of this, the rest was observational humour, but there are always mong's who figure that humour is a reason to "defend" their homeland. I think you'll find they don't mind joking about other regions, nations, colours (they haven't gotten to outlawing racist jokes yet!), religions. Have to agree the Bosnian as th most self-deprecating, not alone the Bosnjak jokes, but in general they have a sense of humour more akin to Irish and UK, droll and able to self-criticise.
If anyone has seen CSI Drnis, they'd have a time making out the humour, the dialogue is poor, but when you know the area....

Every single joke I heard in Zagreb was either about hwo stupid Bosnians are or about how small Slovenia was.
The only joke I ever understood properly to laugh at was the one were Tarzan met Muja... please excuse my butchering of the Croat language, but I haven't used it for more than a year. So the little I did know has evaporated.
Muja and Tarzan meet in the jungle..Drago Mi je moj ima Tarzan...drago mi je tarzan my ima Muja...tarzan then introduces Cheetah...ove ja Cheetah...muja replies ove ja fata ne citam. ;D
