Croatia is safe, much safer than many other countries.
May I just point out that since 9/11 2001, about 123,000 people were killed in gun related incidents in the USA (source The Nation magazine) or 61 teenagers knifed (killed) in London in the last 14 months.
And only an idiot would try to dissuade people of traveling to the USA or the UK. Millions of tourist are visiting both countries and have a good time.

I haven't read the thread thoroughly just a quick glance at the first thread... but for the average Miro... Croatia is a very safe place, much safer than most countries.
If you're in a position of power... in the business of making money and keep questionable company. Zagreb is a mafiso pit full of vile henchmen... I kept questionable company for a time, not by choice and one of my regular restaurants was the scene of two contract killings. Glad to be away from that lifestyle.

Yea, I actually think in the back of my mind (and it's just a minuscule bit of free thinking here and nothing else) that America should be placed on some warning list. Almost bad for your health just to watch CNN daily, and see all the crime that goes on there as a way of life. But bummer, things are so cheap over there. Worth the risk to get cheap electronics, clothing, over sized food portions, see Disneyland, and ride in huge gas guzzling automobiles & feel like the king of the road. -- By the way, can I have a green card please? Hehe.

@ "katef" I've just realised an AMAZING coincidence, one that you wouldn't believe! It appears that you seem to be using the EXACT same computer as someone that used to post on here, someone called "darcy". WOW! Honestly, the arrogance of wasting everyone's time by trying to pretend that you're a first time user who's asking for answers to some genuine questions is beyond belief. To try and skew the subject matter into something for your own agenda - as you're clearly trying to do - is ridiculous. And to be so lazy as to not even use a different computer, well... If you want to waste your time, fine, but please don't waste the time of others who will genuinely try to discuss this with you. For ANYONE else who would like to genuinely discuss the Radio 4 programme, of course, please do ahead. But just remember to stay calm.

Judging by the thread title and the original poster's question I don't think she's here for business reasons so the article is rubbish in this sense and it is based on at least two wrong premises. One of the murders is a classic act of a psychopath the other an act of terrorism out of a different country.
Having said that, Croatia is bad for business, especially for foreigners, so I don't see any disagreements among different posters here.

Absolutely hilarious. The British Foreign Office warning Brits to be careful when holidaying in a much saver place than in their own home. ;D What’s next? ?? Recommending a fortnight all inclusive criminal package, 2 for the price of 1 in Brixton or in any of the hundreds of other crime ridden areas and estates in the UK. Apart from being damaging to the Croatian tourist industry, The British Foreign Office and brave invincible crusaders like darcy and katef insult the Brits’ intelligence and mentality by, in the name of safety for Brits, linking, and in the case of the crusaders, constantly linking one of the most tourist safe places in Europe to corruption and organized crime. Do they really think that on their 2 weeks hard earned holiday, the Brits cannot enjoy a cold beer without getting an uncontrollable urge to become latter day Eliot Ness’s and Thomas Dewey’s hell bent on singing ‘God Save The Queen’ in Andersonstown or the Kevin Barry song on Shankill Road. ;D Corruption and organized crime exist everywhere though realistically but not excusable more so in the new democracies in transitional processes to a free market economy. Regarding the ex communist nations from the Baltic across eastern Europe to the Balkans, Albania and Croatia have had the most positive results in fighting corruption and organized crime according to Transparency International (TI).
