Hi Guys...
Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this thread
but I was wondering if anyone could help, I need to refurbish some doors and I need to know the names for:
clear varnish, coloured varnish, paint stripper, sander (the machine)and door hinges.
Another thing...would anyone know if Bauhaus or somewhere else would cut wood in a lipped way, for overlapping joints?
Thanks

I may not be a great deal of help and there are others on here who have a better grasp of the language but I'll have a go.....
Varnish = Lak Woodstain = Lazura
You can get coloured varnish.... look for those two words together on the tin.
The general word for a sander is 'Brusilica'. This covers all sanding/grinding machines. For your purpose you will need to ask for something like a 'oscilirajuća brusilica za drvo'
For hinges there are a few words..... Sarka, spojnica vrata, panti...... all of wish should get you what you need.
I'm not sure Bauhaus will cut what you want but worth a try. They do have a cutting desk but not sure if the will only cut sheet materials to size for you... I think they only have a wall saw. Other than that you will need to find a joiners shop (stolaria, radionica za drvo) and sweet talk them into cutting what you want....
Not sure where you are based but if you can't find anywhere we can do what ever you want at our workshops. We are about 40 minutes East of Zagreb. We have full workshop facilities and can pretty much produce anything you require in wood. Contact details below.
Anyway I hope that was of some help. As I said I'm sure someone will be along to iron out my errors and fill in the bits I missed out.
cheers Tom

I've not seen hinges of the type we normally use in UK and I'm not sure how they fitted the old pintle hinges you see in Eastern Europe, were they just hammered in? It seems a bit hit & miss as hinges need to be fitted quite accurately.

The newer ones are not hammered in, you screw them in, each turn giving you around 1/2 mm adjustment. The holes must be perfectly drilled square to the face and in exactly the right position as there is now adjustment up and down.
You get no adjustment really with a UK style butt hinge and these Croatian hinges do allow for easy removal of the door/window so in some ways they are more user friendly just tricky to fit.
