I have now flown from Split Airport by the sea to Jelsa on Hvar and back three times with European Coastal Airlines new seaplane service, and wanted to report what a great experience this is. The airport by the sea is right next to the main airport in Split, they have a free car transfer service which takes 3 minutes, or you can walk it in 10 minutes. The flight itself takes 15 minutes, and costs around 45 Euros. If you consider that a taxi from the airport to the main port in Split takes 40 minutes and costs around the same, this is amazing value and an huge gain in time over the ferry (2 hours) or catamaran (1 hour). The seaplane flies low, so you get fantastic views. In Jelsa the seaplane docks in the heart of the village, next to the small fishing boats; they can arrange a transfer to Hvar town. The whole experience is informal, friendly and efficient and I have become a fan. I hope that they will extend the service to other destinations like Korcula soon (they are also flying between Pula, Losinj and Split).

Nothing this year, but they are making progress on both destinations. Would say the chances for 2016 are good, but depends on the local politicians.
