I bought a house in Komiza, Vis island last autumn (2014) and have been renting it out during the summer 2015. I managed to get a rental licence and also got an invoice for the Tourist Tax, which I of course paid.
However, I never got any invoice from the tax authorities. Now when asking for it, the local tax authorities are of the opinion that I do not qualify for the Bed Tax system, as I am not a Croatian citizen. They tell me that, as a non-Croatian citizen, I need "to open a business", involve an accountant, keep books on income and costs and on that basis then pay tax.
I think the tax authorities have got it wrong. I think that I, as an EU citizen, should have the right to qualify for the Bed Tax in the same way as Croatian citizens. However the local authorities seem not to know that rules have changed or do not want to understand it.
Please let me know if you have any material (in Croatian) with arguments which I could use when I try to convince the tax authorities that I should be able to qualify for the bed tax. Do you have any experience with the tax authorities in Vis? Do you have any local contact in Vis, who could help me sorting out this matter?
Thanks in advance for your help!
