A local guy here on Hvar rocked up last week with his Jamaican girlfriend and introduced her to all the family. Apart from lots of curious looks, it was all very natural and she had a great time, and is back again in a couple of months.

I've lived in Croatia for 13 years and I find myself looking when I see anyone who isn't white. There are a lot of racists here in Croatia, but I have never heard of anyone getting hassled. You'll be fine.

AWESOME! I'm a Kenyan who lives and works in the west coast of Canada and I'm visiting Dubrovnik in a month and looking forward to it. A friend of mine brought this up so I decided to research this. I know Malta has had some issues with this and for that reason I didn't go a couple of years ago. But curious looks invite curious conversations, which can be fun. I'll just have to wear my magic hat.

Croatians stare at everyone: White, black, Asian or Martian. You won't have any problems due to the colour of your skin. It's the colour of your money they're interested in.

Hi Sonja, where did you read about people being pulled off a train in the middle of the night and being left in the middle of nowhere?

Used to work with a Bosnian guy once ... he half jokedly used to say that you'll have a harsher experience in ex-Yugo if you're Albanian or Romanian than black. Blacks, they didn't figure it out, yet. He knew I'm also Romanian so he advised to use the Canadian passport and keep mum 'bout my second citizenship, heh. I might not get 'sobe' otherwise. A funny thing about the involuntary racism (ie racism by lack of exposure). My 3 year kid, who never saw a black kid before, when exposed to one in Canada, started vigurously rubbing his face and arms. Trying to clean his skin, he thought. Kind of embarassing for us to explain the cultural mindset to his supervisors when we came to pick him up later.

Since English is the official language of Barbados, I doubt very much Sonja2 is who she purports to be.

What is the economic state of Crotia. Broke, lots of cash in hand (maybe under a pillow), lots of debt, and plenty of black business (and I'm not talking about race here).

Please no one quote the above post from vladdracula if you decide to respond. It will just mean the words get frozen forever.
