Typical Croat refuses to listen to the trth about his country; hence the reason it will never improve.
IU was talking to a very liberated and highly educated Croatian today who works very hard for less than €600 a month he agrees me in all my comments except the food.
But where does this idea come from that everybody loves Croatian food? I have had business meetings with at least 100 foreigners in Zagreb and when they opened to me not one of them told me that they liked Zagreb. Horrible place Horrible people.
P.S your name is ENglish man in England; clearly you're Croatian and Pom is a word only to be used by Australians.

Please excuse me if I speak out of place but...........
As a fellow "English"man, I feel that you have made your point! You have probably upset a multitude of peoples (freedom of speech) but perhaps, it's now time, to stop ranting. You're obviously not happy and integrated within Zagreb, so perhaps it's time to leave....with dignity!

Look mate,
The reason I use malienglez as my alias is simply because I was often called this whilst I lived in Croatia. Im not a Croatian and if I were I certainly wouldn't pretend to be English or any other nationality. I was born in Bethnal Green hospital in the East end of London so if anything I'm a cocney. As a matter of fact I'm starting to have my doubts as to your true identity. It seems a bit rude not to introduce yourself to us and yet expect to take part in conversation.
Best Regards
Paul Gregory
p.s. I have had to spell Cocney incorrectly as there seems to be some kind of software preventing me typing c-o-c-k....whoops didn't work there though!!

Maybe you should try to chill-out and go with the flow. As they say when in Rome etc. ' Isn't this a great thread. I would suggest everyone doesnt 'go with the flow.' The flow in Croatia may take you down a sewer, (kanalisation), that was never designed to take what, in the west, we assume it might take. I am referring to . Think about it. I've had rods, arms, everything down these things, (4 inch plastic pipes), to clear them. Twice since I've been here. Croatia - Come to Croatia and become - a sewage expert!!!! But, there is a difference between Zagreb and.....the coast. What did Yugoslavia do with all that wealth from...the coast? At the coast it's...layed back. Sunny. Still warm. Shirt sleeves, T shirts. Swim even. These people (Croats/DALMATIANS), at the coast, think they are the . They think they ARE Croatia. They don't want the EEC (EU). Hate their goverment, (which may change ((Remove/TAX)) their world). They don't need anything. What do they do to survive? This is a great question. Vineyards, olive groves. Pigs in the backyard, sheep, chickens, trees blooming with all kinds of stuff. All buckshee. From inheritence. A lot come from these quirks of life and death. Livelihoods come from these things. Passed down. And they all have 'cover jobs' or one 'partner' works abroad. I live on the coast. It aint cheap. Some of it, is...expensive. Fortunately smoking and drinking. My two favourite hobbies, is so cheap here. Sex, well it's always been free! Yes? No? Yup, I know...it costs you, whatever way...... Tomorrow, AND SUNDAY, is "THE DAY OF THE DEAD! (Get the violins out now). They drag it out for 2 days. Then on Monday yet another holiday. But, I would say it is totally and completely meaningless in this born again Catholic community. Where most of the churches are structually falling apart around their pullpits. A few months ago a helicopter flew over my house, nearly knocking the chimney off, and dropped a polished stone crucifix on the headland. Concreted in by the army. Like...why......What is Croatia saying to the world? They're making it up as they go along, believe me. They just don't know. Will Croatia join the EU in 2007? Interesting eh. And let me repeat once again. I'm quite chilled here. (Groan). The wife, well, last I saw of here she was half way across the ceiling, waving a Union Jack! NB. A neighbour came back today, from Germany. Brought me....3 TINS OF HEINZ BEANS. Phew, drool.

To the Englishman in England, Kudos to you! Your thoughts were very well said. I definitely agree with you. My only question is that howcome these people squawking about the bad things in Croatia still stay longer here. If someone is not happy in this country then they are free to go by all means. And if England is a heaven on earth then why the hell did they move out? For me, it is only a matter of perspective, how you see things whether it is a half glass full or half empty. So far, my experiences in Croatia are 80% good. There are some isolated unpleasant experiences but that's alright. I experienced the same thing too in my own country and when I was in the US as well. So what makes the difference? To the Englishman in Zagreb: Find yourself a better place to live on Earth. I suggest Somalia , Tanzania or Burundi would be the best place for you. Afterall, with your strong magnetic personality, you could be considered a KING of the jungle. hahaha ;D curica

2 englishman... It's more than just obvious that you got busted doing some dirty business in Zagreb or at least you tried, but it didn't work for you, hehe. You are a typical example of a dumb foreigner who thinks that would get away with everything including snooping around holes in the system, cheating and stuff. Once you mentioned you had to pay 500 euros or stmh for some stamps!? What stamps cost so much? A fine for some fraud maybe ? I hope they kick you out of the country ASAP ! We dont need some scumbag like you. 2 alsdoubles I really appreciate your fantasies and other products of your imagination especially about the churches falling apart and some helicopter, space shuttles, aliens and stuff . Here i can only think of your brain cells falling apart, no offense pliz, but less alcohol wouldnt hurt you either, dont you think ? ;D ;D ;D Now finally try to get some sleep, you know it may really help to put your brain cells together again after so much mental effort for nothing. Sleep sleep sleep, just imagine there is no catholic church, bad food (no beer or wine either, understand ? ), no european union, no sheep and olives.......sleep...here we go...sleep...good boy.... z z z z z z Thank you Take care

Please stay on Adriatic and go to Montenegro or Albania Macedonia and see how other transition countries are struggling. Maybe a black sea riviera in Romania would be a place for you m8. just get the hell out of this horrible place that you hate so much. You will not miss it and anyone here will miss you. ;D

The economy is in a mess (understandably) the taxes are too high, everybody is trying to steal from everybody in business dealings. TRUE, but that is way things are done in any country in that part of the world. Corruption is ever present in 90% of companies. Everying is overpriced and of bad quality. About corruption and prices is TRUE but quality is same as everywhere, anyway it is all imported stuff The people are incredibly rude and thoughtless. NOT TRUE, people are same as everywhere, you have some good people and some idiots They drive like it is their last day on Earth. TRUE...but if you go to Italy is is even worst They are a nation of nationalistic idiots; do not move here I made the mistake and cannot wait to go back home. Unfortunately there are some hard line nationalists but that is minority in my opinion. Please, do not hesitate MOVE OUT FAST, we can't wait to see you go. The people are unfriendly and few people really speak English; okay okay learn Croatian I hear. NOT TRUE. Most people are friendly and almost all young people and some of older generation speak some understandable english, enough good to communicate. Croatians have the idea that Croatia is heaven on Earth it is much closer to hell. Well...most english think UK is best country, aren't they? I will be back with more thoughts after I have been to pay €500 for stamps..d**n communists. You probably buying property and paying some equivalent what is in UK stamp duty. Well, than that is not expensive, I paid almost £2000 stamp duty for a tiny flat in London

Hi Englishman-in-Croatia I don't know exactly how I got here, but somehow this forum got my attention. I honestly don't understand in what circle of people you move and how it's possible that you've only come across people who made you think and feel what you do. There are loads of people I know, I'd say ALL of them, who have none of the characteristics described in your posts: they're not nationalistic, they work hard, they are critical (very!) towards things in this country (politics, economics), they speak English (some of them even excellent English), they're not rude and they're especially polite to foreigners... I believe someone has already given (another Englishman?) a pretty fair account of similarities of negative sides btwn Croatia and England. It sounded quite objective. Anyway, the bottom line is this: I agree with some of your views, moreover, it depresses me that some things malienglez wrote are true. But what gives the soul to a country are the people. I'd love to move (only being a doctor makes it quite difficult to find a work in other countries, although they are sought after) and I would never miss the Croatian "system", but I would miss the people. I truly believe they are much, much nicer than you see them.

svugrekzg: Your unbelievable ability to read mines is amazing perhaps I could start a circus and use you as the star attraction. You clearly missed the point; it is the locals that are constantly cheating, lying and attempting to steal from one another.
I have never broken any law knowingly in my life; with the exception of speeding etc.
However with regard to your cheating comments; if I was not so financially astute and did not hold a deep mistrust of everything here I would have had over €45,000 stolen from me.
Basically our comments are nonsensical rubbish that have no grounding and is just the typical rants of an uneducated oik, please feel free to speak to me on my level; I would suggest that you have at least 8 years of study and at least a life time of personal growth before you are able to do that.
As for everybody else; some very fair and reasoned points; perhaps my frustrations in every single activity being very complicated here drive me crazy and I go a little OTT, and it is also possible that many other local countries are in the same situation.
However once again today; I attempted two very simple activities and found them both impossible; I drove into the centre for a haircut and of course I was unable to park my car; build another high storey car park Zagreb it is not rocket science.
I also transferred a large amount of money here to Zagreb; however Zagrebecka banka decided to automatically change my money to Kuna’s and then back to Euro’s at my request; they attempted to steal almost €5000 from me in exchange fees; the money was initially in Euro’s.
Of course I did not allow that to happen, but has I been a quiet reserved sort I would be €5000 out of pocket; as I said Thief’s/corrupt swine’s everywhere.
P.S those people who tell me to leave; I wish I could unfortunately my investments are too deeply rooted to simply head home; for your information I have paid this counry over €100,000 in one year in taxes;how many of you have contributed so much to your future here?

Come on, you don't need to park in the street in front of your hairdresser There are underground car parks in the very centre of the town - Kaptol, Langov trg, Petrinjska street, Importane Galerija and Importane Centar. You are exaggerating a bit. I agree about the bank(s) - and I hate them all

Well, what else can i say...i feel sorry for you and your ignorance. First of all ; you shoulda known what was the 'price' of money transfer or exchange or whatever transaction you tried to do. It's considered a service, you know, therefore it costs, maybe England is an exception Also it wouldnt have hurt ya if you checked the Zagreb bank policy on time knowing there is so much mess or corruption in the country. I will answer your last question. I run a small factory near Zagreb. I have not experienced any problems with corruption directly, only slow administration that used to drive me crazy, but once it is over, you are fine. I also havent had any people around me trying to steal from me, only a few companies that dont pay me on time, but they do it eventually then, they have not ever failed. Now about some certain amount of money of investment i wouldnt talk about on here. have a good day p.s. I am also one of those rude ones and ones that dont speak-write english ;D

This manic post gets better and better. I wonder if the 'people in grey' the OLGAS, and the.....can't think of a male name, are watching/listening. Those who dare to knock this dreamland of Croatia. In an attempt to calm things.....I will wax poetical:
The Jugo blows in, across Africa, It sounds cold. But, you go out in leather jacket, and rapper hat... And have a stroke half way down the road, Because there is no air. (And the there is a candle burning in a RED globe,m with a crucifix on it...from a previous josser!"!!!!Argghh!) A local, worms out of her 'hole' (concrete bunker), and states, (Jeez, she speaks English, this Troll)...."I hate the Jugo, and love the burra, which blows cold and...healthy" Ahharr! Does she have a parrot on her shoulder. It's hard to see from my....coma......? Yeh, we all long for...the burra... The cold wind which blows off Gorbachev's , And rattles the 'scruras' and blows through solid Croatian concrete (ARRGGGHH!), even.... So you have much sex in bed, with your partner....of whatever 'ilk'. Just to keep warm. IF you are still sober...
This poem I dedicate to Konzum. The Croatian Tesco. Where all the check-out girls ware thongs, made out of PURE Croatian gossamer concrete. I promise you!
Wow, this is fun. I hope you will all buy my book, when it comes out!
