Anna, I've been coming to this site for quite awhile now. I enjoy the information, friendship and interesting conversation. I have a love for the country and the people since Croatia is the homeland of my grandparents and I still have many realtives and friends living there. I've put up with the insults from some members even being rude to me. But when someone is just shouting out crap from their mouth without any real substance how can you allow that? I just read the last 10 posts and 2-3 of them had foul language and just ramblings. I'm an American and I'm all for free speech but I think this has gotten out of hand. I would appreciate your input. Thanks so much.

Hi pacificstar,
I'm completely in agreement with you with your comments in regard to foul language. Why some people can only seem to get their point across by resorting to swearing and insults is beyond me.
I do my best to delete (and edit) such messages. Unfortunately, some seem to escape through, sometimes because of the large volume and also because of the time difference of various posters around the world.
I really do try to do my best in monitoring this forum. I also appreciate that people such as yourself (and a number of others) take care to point out such matters.
If anyone is concerned or annoyed by personal insults, please do contact me, either via PM (personal message) or email (webmaster@visit-croatia.co.uk).

Anna, I understand your policy of freedom of expression through this forum and all.. but when you let a thread such as "Croatia is a horrible place to live" to continue, people will get irritated and they express their irritation and frustration through thier keyboard. I am a moderator at a several sites.. when a thread gets started that has a potential to cause friction among the forum members, i lock the thread... No more arguments and bickering... and may i also suggest you lock the thread, "croatia is a horrible place to live"? that thread does nothing but make people angry... i thought the spirit of this site was to promote everything that is good about Croatia and give useful info for the people visiting this website? I know this is your website and all but if you let that thread go, i think that is being little bit irresponsible... just my 2 cents.

Anna, I also wanted to write you a letter on this, but I expected a foul mouthed reply in return from another poster! The foul language really has to stop, and editing it with an *asterik instead of the real letters doesn't help.
But I don't agree with Rich that you should lock or delete the thread. I think people should still be able to express their opinions on whatever topic they wish.
Simply make it clear that posts that contain profanity or any kind or name calling (one in particular, LoveU2, seems to think calling everyone s or other vulgar names is a proper discussion technique) are unacceptable. Surely we are not children who can't discuss without name calling! Let us prove it.
Don't take away our free speech! Just make sure everyone knows what the limits are. Thank you.

This is truly pathetic!!! I bet you go to the movies and pay good money to hear someone cuss up a storm. I bet you listen to the radio and hear songs with name calling and profanity, I bet you are not writing to the movie or music industry complaining about the language used, I bet you are buying CD's & DVD's that have profanity on them... I bet you want to go see the movie "The FAULKERS" Well you better not go, there is profanity used in it!!!!! My suggestion to the people that don't like to see what I am writing, just skip over my post... I have seen people post things like.....and personal attacks with Profanity...I have not done that, yes I have called some people s but I believe that is called freedom of speech. What I write would still qualify as a PG13 movie....I think that it is not the profanity that is bothering you but MY OPINIONS.... If you don't like my opinions. TO BAD, some people do. You can skip over the people that you don't like, nobody is forcing you to come here and read all posts. You need to grow up and get a life...If I write the word...and that bothers you. You must lead a very sheltered life....no matter where you go in the world you here people talking in many different fashions. I may be opinionated but I do not curse in every sentence, the way you are suggesting. I rather hear a curse word than a LIAR!!!!!!

I didnt say delete the thread, i said lock it. if you lock a thread, that means that if they want to start another discussion on the topic, they can. locking a thread DOES not infringe upon freedom of speech, rather, it stops the discussion that is causing ABUSE of freedom of speech by going into the territory of SLANDER and DEFAMATION... You guys must understand the difference between freedom of speech and slander. Just because its freedom of speech doesnt mean that you have to abuse that right... and remember, it is a right. with that right comes responsibility.. to yourself and others. If you express your views and feelings in a RESPECTFUL manner, you are using your rights of freedom of speech responsibly... but when you start using idiotic 4 letter words and call people names... well.. that shows you how intelligent you are. additional 2 cents.

Thank you Rich and "Name Withheld" for your comments.
I have to say, the reason why I haven't deleted or locked the thread in question was because I thought that *most* people could, and should be allowed to, engage in a proper debate and discussion. I had hoped that those in disagreement (of whom there are, of course, many!) could put forward their opinions in a fairly sensible manner. I think that some of the thread has actually raised some interesting points.
I completely understand that the topic is likely to anger. There have been a number of times (in various threads) where I've deleted messages that I felt (in fact, was pretty certain about) were deliberately trying to provoke.
Likewise, since the beginning of these boards, there have been numerous messages that have personally angered me! But, again, I didn't feel that there were any reasonable grounds for removing them, and have simply taken a step away from it to calm myself.
You are right about the need for limits. I think some proper rules should come into force that forum participants need to adhere to. I'll draw up a list and post it up over the next few days, so everyone knows where they stand.
P.S. I hope I haven't rambled too much in this post. Don't you find when you get a cold, it is hard to get your thoughts together?

"well.. that shows you how intelligent you are." by Rich I do believe you are name calling! When you do it, the way you do it.... it is still the same thing, you are no better then the person that uses the occassional curse word or the person that defends what they write after being attacked verbally by say EMIZ an his buddies. Who made you the director of proper language and what is improper to express.... An occasional curse word is not going to kill you... You see it in movies, you hear it in music. I bet you go to the movies, I bet you don't come out complaining about the movie "oooh they said a curse word in that movie". People are so two-faced....they will complain here about a few curse words then go rent a movie that probably has more violence and profanity than can be imagined! example: Pulp Fiction, Collateral with Tom Cruise. I bet you have watched a 1000 movies in your life time and never complained or sent a complaint to the director!!! I am not perfect, alot of people are not, an the occassional curse word does not make me stupid nor anyone else that curses occassionally. Cursing is a personal choice not a indicator of intelligence. Unless when someone talks and every other word is a curse word, maybe that person is stupid they can't communicate or they are just trash. But making a big deal about someone posting 1 curse word in the middle of a thousand words is simply stupid. my 2 cents

Wow! It wasn't my intent to get people to point the finger or use the finger towards anyone else. I was just unhappy about the foul language and just was wondering what Anna the moderator's thought's were. This is a wonderful site and Anna and the other people who come here have made it that way.

If you read my post, it was a suggestion about locking a thread that causes excessive argument, NOT ABOUT FOUL LANGUAGE. if you want to cuss, fine, i use foul language everyday. i just choose not to use them in a forum like this. in my opinion, people who use foul languages to express themselves ALL the time are less intelligent or ignorant or limited in their vocabulary or trash as YOU suggested. I was just expressing MY opinion about certain people who use foul language and did not call them "names". Again, READ my post before you reply to it.

I understand you quite well, most of your post was about "using your rights of freedom of speech responsibly". I respect that! I will admit it was written quite eloquently. Have a great day LoveU2 ;D I can't remember who said this, I think it was Ben Franklin... I could be wrong. I thought of this when reading our posts and you mentioned freedom of speech... Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

LoveU2, Do you write George Bush's speeches? He is a great believer in "The search for freedom".

I must say that I think it's ok to have foul language on the site. Why not? People cuss in real life, why censor it here? Anyway, when I see someone who can't string a sentence together and just swears up a storm and hurls insults at everyone, I just laugh. I say give 'em enough rope and let them hang themselves...you can quickly tell who has a modicum of intelligence just by the language they use and through their rationale for a lot of the opinions they hold. As much as I do feel this site is a good thing for exchanging opinions, barring people for not being positive would be bad. The exchange of ideas always includes the positive and negative. Let's face it, the truth isn't always nice. Neither is our use of the language and neither are any of us. Keep the swearing in. It allows me to filter out the people who use expletives as arguments rather than exclamation points.

It allows me to filter out the people who use expletives as arguments rather than exclamation points. Forget about it Petar. I have tried telling Anna the same exact thing that you have posted. She refuses but also the rules of the company that own and run these boards(Proboards) have rules that Anna has to follow. Sometimes she goes beyond what the rules that the company proboard dictate. She has censored & removed alot of what I have written and a few others who have posted here, because she did not like the content. Unfortunately if you want to POST here you have to deal with a young women's censorship, she will remove things that she feels is fighting or intense debating. I agree that she should remove posts that are just strings of foul language. But there are others like me that use the occasional foul word on what we are posting! If you post here this is what you will land up dealing with. I guess if we don't like it we can move on to other posts. I still like this forum, even though it does feel a little stifled (polite way of saying communist) hahaha. LoveU2
