Are you serious! A bike on a Croatian road, how well do you really know Croatia? Yes I know it is scary The more people use bikes. The stronger the laws become for protecting bikers. The more they will denie car access to certain parts of the city which will mean more safety for bike people and walkers.

I only say this because walking can some time be difficult! Sometimes there are no paths at all and I often see old people struggling along the road being passed by big lorries. Also if you've got a pram there are no ramps from the paths to the road!
I've been put off cycling in Croatia because some people have said, "oh no, you don't cycle in Croatia, its something we just don't do". I'm sure its just a matter of time before the mind set is changed but it would be nice to see some pedestrian/cycle friendly signs

Cycling in Croatia is not the best thing, but I do it nearly everyday, most of the time its safe, only had one accident and the car came off worse. I agree in the need to educate the drivers and people in general about cycling. How many people in Zagreb know about the network of cyclepaths that run around the city, all of them off the road, so the only hazards are people and cafes.

I did not know about the cycle paths that run around the city. Where can you get information about them?

He survived but was never the same. I would really love to see stricter laws for auto's so that walkers and bikers have a chance out there. I guess it will just take time.... we are just now getting the drunks off the roads with the fairly new laws about drink/drive.

There are no maps, just look on the streets. Streets where there are paths include Gunduliceva, Vukovarska, Kliceva from Savska to Republike Austrije, parts of Svaska ,Slavonska,The road to Most slobode out to Avenija Dubrovnik and there are the ones in Jarun

Bikes are the solution ?
If you want to promote suicide then you should indeed tell people to start riding bikes, especially in Istria in the summer.
I was just thinking to start a petition to ban bikes from the main roads in the summer time. Our delivery trucks are often losing valuable time due to idiots on bicycles who block the whole road, nothing passes anymore, everybody is driving 4 km/u uphill. Bicycles don't belong on the roads along the coast in Croatia or are you going to tell me that you drive also with a bike on the autostrada in Italy or Germany ?

OOOHHH no... there are places I would never suggest taking a bike or walking. I just think that they should make places for bikes and people that will not interrupt traffic and will be safe for everyone. So there are options other than using auto's. Other countries do it, we can take what they have developed & learned and use it for our country. Germany is a good example and there are many other countries that use bikes alot more than auto's. We should try to bring this feeling to croatia.

well put Ghost, the Germans have their finger on the pulse with their kilometres of cycle paths. They are cycle friendly almost as much as the Chinese and in many of their smaller towns, Osnabruck to name but one, it's strangely quiet, except for the ring of bells.
