Hey bob I was raised in the uk educated in the uk, socialy I'm about as english as you get so I dont agree with the 'Im typical of the croat mindset' stereotype, as for endangering the lives of all those around me when i light up, utter sanctimonious tripe, life is a terminal condition, even non smokers die, shocking eh. As for forcing the condition on others, hell its one of the least problematic. You can allways move away from me when I light up, more than can be said for some real serious stuff that is imposed on the fine citizens of the uk. I have yet to come across a cast iron reason for not smoking......as for 'No corruption in the UK!' are you blind or dont you read the broadsheets, every day some minister or business tycoon is caught with his hand in the till. The real difference is most corruption has been legitimised in the UK. On the positive side, premier league football is a big plus,..... cant think of much else really, its a wealthier society unless your poor in which case it really sucks, I'd rather be poor in croatia then in the uk.... so boo to you

11 year old disabled boy found murdered in England, 14 year old arrested! One of the finer aspects of Croatia is that you do not fear children! They have respect! unlike the gangs roaming my English streets, happy slapping, mugging, drug-taking, stealing, burgling etc etc

Bingo Mark. I learnt to fear groups of +12 year olds in London. Armed, savage, uncompromising and without fear of consequences...in the unlikely there are any.
I have no such fear here and I don't think I'm being overly naive about it.

In my humble opinion, in Croatia you reap what you sow, if you upset someone or cause trouble it will come back to you, but you can live a quiet happy life, not having to look over your shoulder, not having to run out of the house to check your car is OK when you hear some children pass by, when some teenagers walk past your house at 3am, they've probably been to a party, bit tipsy maybe, but not full of crack-cocaine and ready to kill the first person who asks them to be quiet because the baby is asleep!

These old bones have been around the world a bit and, yup! comparatively, there's nothing to fear here. There are guns from Chile to Alaska, Russia is generally lawless, The entire continent of Africa is ruled and populated by thugs. Islamic countries? ?? Where is it safer to live as a regular person than here?

"yeh in croatian there is nothing to fear" not true, there's plenty of organised crime and shoot outs with the police do happen. Also mad cow disease has struck and bird flu. Having said that the crime rate in the UK is the worst in Europe and drug use is now on par with the USA. I suppose you can be more off your guard in Croatia but I wouldn't recommend switching off completely, I wouldn't recommend that, no way. Especially showing off your wealth, not a good idea. Anyway you can't get real jam doughnuts in Croatia.

You can get jam donuts every where here. Maybe not with that course sugar on them though, and the filling is far less artificial than what you may be use to.
THERE IS NO MAD COW DISEASE IN CROATIA The tests proved negative in the end. Bird flu is all over europe. Gang violence is almost non existent when compared to Britain and US. Muggings are virtualy unheard of. Only thing you have to worry about here is landmines if you are a keen bush walker.
1 good side of UK. Second hand cars are very cheap.

I'm merely urging caution, and I am against blanket statements that suggest Croatia is paradise. You can't get Waitrose doughnuts in Croatia so there is no comparison I'm afraid, and I would want to eat that particular cow. Moo Moo.

I'm merely urging caution, and I am against , and I would want to eat that particular cow. Moo Moo. See, even you would want to eat that cow. Personaly I wouldn't eat it, obviously there was something wrong with it. No one is issuing blanket 'croatian paradise' statements. We've been through all the bad stuff in other threads. If you can't adapt to a different brand of donut, then darwinism will get the better of you in the long run. Another good side to the UK, my parents were born there and I get to have a British passport.

look you can't get a proper pint in Croatia. That settles the argument once and for all.

i'v had some good pints in croatia, certainly drank enough, but how about top class fish and chips, mostly f&c in the uk is a horrible greasy mush but now and again 1 comes across a real gem and when you do you are partaking in the food of the gods, whitebait and fries with mayo aint 2 shabby either but not quite in the same class as a truly great fish and chip supper (loads of vinegar on mine please)

I'm in Mid beds this weekend (someone has to be here!) and yesterday had a bag o' chips, open, in the street, salt, vinegar....heaven! However, I'm already looking forward to going "home" to Varazdin, I forgot how cold the wind is here.
Good things? SKY Sports. Fray Bentos Steak and Kiddly pie in a tin. (have I done that one?)
