I know this is a dumb question but when it comes to cars I am....dumb.
We are trying to get hold of a decent 2nd hand car in Zagreb area, something small, safe and averagely priced.
Anyone got any suggestions where there are any good places. I know oglasnik is like an exchange and mart but I would prefer to go and look around one place with a bit of choice, but is it dramatically more expensive that way as 2nd hand prices seem to be more than in England
Help would be much appreciated, thanks

Try Hrelić on Sunday for a genuine Balkans atmosphere. As usual, prices in Croatia are higher than anywhere else. .

The car auction in Zagreb on Sundays can indeed be.......interesting, but don't expect to see too many prices displayed on windscreens, you will often need to ask the price and go from there.
Take a Cro friend with you to do the negotiations if you can.

If you are willing to pay a bit more you can look at the website of the leasing companies. They always have cars which have been taken back because of failure to pay by the previous owner. These cars are normally in good condition and are well priced.
If you have a company it is not a bad idea to go for a new car. Many car dealers now have very good deals on small cars and at least you are driving a new car. When you take away the pdv they really become cheap.
My experience with 'cheap' used cars is that most people only sell their car when the car is beyond repair or is looking at extensive repairs for which they don't have the money. In other words, be careful with what you buy. Guarantee is still until the front door and turning back the total mileage is still a national sport in this country.

Maybe most, but definitely not all. We are about to sell our car because we are moving abroad and there are no hidden surprises with it: just a legitimate reason for needing to sell!

Sorry Carol, you are right, there are exceptions and in your case it is a valid exception.
B.t.w. what are you selling ? The mechanics in Istria seem unable to repair my car and now I am forced to sell it again. This is already the second car I have to sell because they cannot repair it. Sometimes I have the idea I am in Africa.

I think Mambo's point was missed here .... unless Carol is selling a 'cheap' used car .... his point (by my reading) appeared to be specifically about the cheap used cars and not the newer, and therefore higher priced, used cars.

Is that the one that Becks claimed had been stolen from him ? I don't think so. But just in case, maybe I should ask more and add "one famous ex-owner"
