Are gay couples welcome in Croatia, can we get a room together, any clubs etc?

Any public display of affection would not be welcomed in fact if you're a man I'd fancy you're risking a kicking from a local ape. There's plenty of young people in Croatia who have no problem with homosexuality.... watch the gay parade in Zagreb on youtube and you'll see how its viewed there.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROHajPnEm3Q ;D to some people here.. gay = person by default asking for trouble, so use your common sense, and if you notice very negative attention on you hmmm move away asap, preferably not into dark street with no people. But you can always prevent that by not standing out from the crowd, because you very probably ain't gonna see lot of gay people publicly here I don't wanna discourage you from visiting cro.. just blend in(imo better than standing out around s.eads or football fans), and you'll be ok.

Jan,
In Istria it is less of a problem, there are even gay beaches and nothing will happen there. If you need places to stay I can give you the addresses of some broader minded people (all ex-pats of course) who will behave normal.

Hope this helps.
Gay Guide To Zagreb "A guide book listing 37 gay-friendly places to visit in Zagreb is now available in hotels and tourist offices around the city. This marks an impressive increase in the 11 places listed in last year's guide, revealing that Zagreb is becoming a much more welcoming place for gay people. The list is aimed at tourists and visitors to the bustling metropolis, and includes details of bars, clubs and accommodation popular with the gay community. The book's creator, Kruno Pekas told the Croatian Times, "I am glad that Zagreb is becoming more gay-friendly."
One of my advertisers describes his apartment in Zagreb as being 'gay friendly'. Let me know if you'd like his contact details and I'll put you in touch with him direct.

I've got lots of gay friends in Zagreb and other parts of Croatia, all great lads and lasses, however they are all paid up members of the Eurovision fan club. I could give you the link if you're interested.

First time in Zagreb three of us were stuck in Zagreb city center, all bars seemed to be closed, and we were parched for the need of an alcoholic beverage. Now all three of us were single travellers and had just met up in the hostel before our night out. So all places closed, where to go? well one of the guys told us during the night that he was gay, the two of us starting to laugh while he told us, it was pretty obvious that he kicked with the left foot anyway! anyway he suggested a bar not too far away from a police station (dont know the street) somewhere in the center. And true to his word he brought us to big gay Al's drinking emporium, where we drank till the morning time with the pleasant staff there who couldnt believe that they had 2 straight guys in there. And on a seperate note, nothing says your quite ugly as when I couldnt even get chatted up in a gay bar talk about a real confidence downer, its lucky I dont have to rely on my looks!!!

Gobrea,
I have good news for you.....it has nothing to do with your looks. Gay friends of mine told me a long time ago already that they can spot gay or straight real easy. Most likely they understood that you were straight, so was no need to waste time on you, in other words............there is still hope for the way you look (unless the women already said you are ugly !).
