Seeing those in Split and Porec getting organized made me decide on seeing if we could get a similar get-to-gether going in Zadar, but to also include returnee Croatians as most of my friends in Zadar are both international ex-pats or returning Croatians.
So are there any internationals in and around Zadar, or returnee Croatians interested in getting together for a drink on Friday 8th March at 6pm at the Yachting club in Borik?
My friends and I would like to start a weekly get together, starting Friday, 8th March - all welcome, and in particular Ex-pats and Returnee Croatians from all around the world. We all need to network in order to navigate how things are done in Croatia, and in particular how to get things done quickly in Zadar and can be of benefit to one another. I am an ex-pat from Australia/U.S./England of Croatian parentage. My friends and me would like to include in our circle of friends and acquaintances others who live part-time or full-time in Zadar, or those that want to.
Our goal:
The aim is to establish a focal point for people to meet every week for a coffee or glass of wine, and to exchange ideas, meet new people and generally soe in a relaxed environment and over time organize ourselves more formally if there is interest.
Given the size of Zadar, I too (like the expat in Split) was surprised that there is not an expat or returnee community established in Zadar. The Italian community has one, but it is basically for those of Italian background.
I am hoping that by us starting to meet and mingle this will be the start of something which has the potential to attract people and ideas. Everyone is welcome, locals too. I too have been to these kind of gatherings/clubs before - Washington DC, San Francisco, Miami, Canberra, Sydney and London and by networking with each other everyone benefits.
I belonged to Croatian clubs in all the cities I mentioned above, and to Australian clubs in America and London and over time I hope that one day we have our own club amentities, similar to what the Italian club has in Zadar. By organizing as a not for profit group we could even get free accommodation for an office to help internations locating here from the city for a club.
Our informal meetings will be a great opportunity for internationals, returning Croatians and locals to meet, mingle, have fun, organize events, share ideas but also how to grow formally into a club offering services to new returnees and those coming to live in the Zadar region.
The intention is to hold four meetings a month - two a coffee morning for those whose commitments make it easier to meet in the day, and two in the evening after work.
If we have enough interest I would like to have our first get-together on
Friday March 8
From 18:00
Place: to be decided
No agenda. Just come and have a glass of wine and say hello, and join me and my international and Croatian returnee friends.
Looking forward to meeting you.
