If a reduced rUk had suddenly found itself with an extra 5bn of debt plus a period of no inward investment until the new geo-political landscape had emerged (i.e. beyond 2016) and the possibility of a currency union with an irresponsible partner looming, then it would not have done the pound much good. Which would have effected everyone who receives their income in pounds or relies on trade with GB.
I suspect that this was a large part of the reason rUk wanted Scotland to stay, apart from the sentimentality of breaking up an exetremely successful 300 year old union
