After numerous disappointments with the local Lawyer fraternity we are still looking for a competent law firm/person to represent us in a neighbour conflict case. Living on the Island of Korcula, anywhere in the vicinity would do. Does anybody know of a good (and competent) English speaking lawyer in the region..........Split, Dubrovnik, Korcula etc.?
Many thanks Mijbil

I have learned that you should never use a local lawyer when dealing with local people. Now I use a law firm in Dubrovnik that has been very good.

I have learnt that it is sometimes not worth the effort of trying to resolve neighbour conflicts through the courtroom. Consider the likely outcomes, even if you win, how are the other party going to feel, and if you are not living there 100% of the time would they be able to retaliate in some way? Would they even comply with the judgement and if not how will you enforce the ruling? Then you must consider the long term relationship with the neighbours. It all sounds messy and expensive with probably just one winner….the lawyer. Maybe a better way through dialogue and face to face negotiation rather than through the legal system? Indeed you are right. However after an amiable number of "face to face" chats with the neighbours, two fairly amiable appeal letters from Lawyers, to no avail, and a lot of lost sleep we are in a corner! Agreed, the legal system here sucks and it is difficult to believe that Croatia will ever enter "Europe", however we must do something!!

Just write to the company and refer to Mr. Krce (forgot his first name). He will put one of his young people on your case anyway. One that hasn't any school friends or family in the vicinity.
