We have owned a house in Croatia for 10 years, and thanks to the contributors to the forum I understand that I can apply for a visa. Which visa can I get, and where do I get it (near Split)? Also, my wife will need one, can I apply for both at the same time?
Thanks.

Where: at the police station in kastel sucurac. The building also doubles as the council offices, katastar and tax office. On the ground floor, left hand side in a tiny room that is right next to the main desk. Its the same room you went whenever you came as a tourist and needed to register (with 24 hours) but the tourist office was closed. They more or less do not speak English. When you need to buy stamps, their is a post office about 5 mins away - walk down to the harbour, turn left and follow the street along. Its just beyond the harbour.
PS Take care where you park. its a great place to get clamped, even though you think your car is just one of many that is parked on the grass verge outside

Which: God knows (and we used to offer a visa assistance service but the rules changed and changed so fast that we gave it up - not to mention that noone would have believed us that we barely made any profit on it given the number of times we had to go there only to find the office shut for coffee etc)

But why are you getting a visa now? You'll still be a EU citizen for at least 2 years and the visas only last one year.

I suspect Theresa will push things along fairly quickly and I really only have small time windows when I am there and can do it. Thanks for the advice, what are the two visas called and then I can do some homework Will you be applying for a Scottish passport so that you can stay in the EU?

maybe an Eire one... my mother is from Northern Ireland and apparently that's good enough for me and my children. I honestly can't think of a benefit though. Will it help me at all in Croatia?

The visas we used to get for people were: a work permit, a family reunification visa, and a couple of others that I can't even remember the names of. The thing is this was 10 years ago, and each year the requirements changed. So, after 10 years and EU accession, I doubt that a single word of the law of 10 years ago still holds.

nothing is ever enjoyed in a hurry! Sit down, relax, have a cup of a tea or coffee, watch the world go by.

As the conservative government has such a small majority then Theresa May will want to declare an election fairly soon. She will want to show some progress to ensure she gets the vote to continue and movement of people will become a key issue. Also the EU want to see some progress and give us a bloody nose to stop other countries contemplating leaving and again people movement is a key issue for them as well. So it may be at the top of the agenda. Just speculation Philip Hammond is just guessing like me, and clearly wants to be cautious to manage expectations. It does no harm getting a visa now. Thanks for your help, hope to meet up soon?

Sounds good. Are you in Croatia this summer? I think we'll be there for the first fortnight in August.
