We are thinking of visiting Dubrovnik, Split, and islands of Hvar and Korcula in December between Christmas and New Years Day. Is ferry service operating (Kapetan Luka or other) during this week? Also, are the islands open for business/tourism during this week? Thanks!

Ferries are working, but on winter schedule - www.jadrolinija.hr Hvar has a lively New Year programme. There are a couple of restaurants open, but the programme is increasingly good, much improved in last 4 years

None of the Split to Dubrovnik catamarans (which stop at Hvar, Korcula etc) operate at that time of year - in fact, the one that operates the longest throughout the year is Kapetan Luka's which stops at the end of October. There are of course *some* sailings to the islands e.g. Split to Hvar to Korcula but from Dubrovnik there's only sailings to the islands close by - the Elafiti islands and Mljet - not to Korcula or Hvar.
From Dubrovnik it would probably be best to travel to Split to get to the islands (Hvar in particular). However, there's also a bus that goes from Dubrovnik to Korcula that you could make use of. Potentially you could go Dubrovnik - bus to Korcula - catamaran to Hvar - catamaran to Split.
