Hi Everybody, I am off to Dubrovnik in two weeks time and I am going mad trying to get info on the place. Some people have told me it's a young, funky and relaxed place, others have said it is an old fogey of a place. I am expecting it to be someway relaxing but can someone please tell me if there is shopping to be done here, if the nightlife is any good and if there are any nice beaches Also, I have heard that you can take a ferry from Dubrovnik to Venice, would really love to do that so if anyone knows about that, please let me know. Thanks a million, Kar

THere is no direct ferry service from Venice to Dubrovnik. From Venice travel to Bari by train and then you have a regular service to DUB.

Dubrovnik - Ortona (Pescara) is easier than Bari if you are going to Venice, but it is still a long journey.

The coastline around there is more rocky than sandy, but there is a sand beach just east of the old town. It seemed to be closed when I was there in October last year, but I dare say it would be open this time of year.
I'm not too sure about nightlife and shopping - though there are some nice restaurants as well as lots aimed more squarely at the tourist trade.
