Where to stay near Split and beyond

Hi - I'm visiting Croatia in late June for about 10 days. I'm planning 4-5 days in Trogir/Split at the end to chill out with some nice restaurants and beaches. But before this I'm thinking of 4-5 days inland (but based in one place)
Does anyone one have any recommendations for either portion?

Wherever you stay, don't miss famous Croatian rakija. And don't have too much of it, it's nasty:-)
