HI There
I'm off to Croatia later this month. We are planning to go Hvar and Bol without accomadation booked(even though I was told don't go without accom prebooked)as we don't want to be tied down to one place. I have heard there are often women waiting at ports to offer private accomdation. How true is this?? Do you think it's advisable to book accomadation before we leave.
Thanks a mill, Sarah

Sarah I would book if i was you cause tourism has grown by 135% from last year and last year we battled to find accomodation. An if you start looking while you are there there is less barganing power from your side

We stopped taking bookings for Hvar at the end of March because we could see how busy it was getting and the fact that most of the good quality accommodation was going fast. Judging from the number of enquiries that we have had I should think that there are going to be a lot of people with a problem walking about trying to find somewhere to stay.
Graham (who does not want any more enquiries for Hvar in August!)

Two days ago, Croatian newspapers reported that this year there are 8% fewer tourists in Croatia than in the same period last year. Maybe there's a chance of getting some good accommodation?!

Angelo - was that 8% fewer arrivals to date compared with last year or was it comparing bookings taken at this time compared with last year. The difference in of interpretation of tourism statistics can lead to many incorrect assumptions. For instance it could mean that on a specific date the numbers were 8% down on the same date as last year, but that type of comparison can be distorted by seasonal factors such as dates of public holidays etc.

Graham, as I remember, it is 8% fewer arrivals.

That is strange Angelo because our partners in Croatia all report a massive increase in reservations and we alone have probably taken three times as many bookings as we had at the same period last year. I just hope that it is not because everyone is going to Croatia in Jauly and August

I never book, but I am max. 6 h drive from the seaside so bring your tent Really, I think if you are lucky you could find accomodation, but all the best appartments are booked for the season. (I heaven't booked anything yet, so we will be in the same situation)
