Bok Abbe,
Razumijem sve! Ucis li jezik u skoli? ili radis li jedan kod kuce sa knjigima?
I can't find a mistake in your piece, I bet you can in mine.

Do you know that you can write all those letters like: ž,ð,š,æ,è if you set your keyboard on the Croatian language? This helps when you have to type something in MSWord. I don't know if you all can see those letters that I typed. I checked on the Preview of this message and the letters are not like I saw them when I typed them. Well, they are correct when typing on Word. I am having difficult with the grammar. I did not use the Croatian language for many years and is difficult to remember the grammar.

The R is a vowel in that context. My favorite word like that is prst (finger). It's also in alphabetical order and almost consecutive letters (except the english alphabet has Q and the Croatian one has "sh" so not quite.) The letter r was vowel maybe 30 years ago, there are only 5 vowel a,e,i,o,u

Hej Marina, Thanks, I do use MSWord a lot and insert the symbols but they don't work so well here unless you know the HTML code for each one. If you use SMS texting then you can't anyway. I guess people put in the missing "bits" by guesswork and context.
So guest, Vas Muzova mama govori kajkavski hrvatski, ali vas muz samo ponekad reci "kaj". Zelim "Kaj" pivo - jako puno! Da li vi takoder?
"Peder" Nesnam sto je to. Nije li "Pedantic"? Cini mi se da vjerojatno nije.
Bok

I think guest was just correcting my grammar in that sentence - it's my husband's mother who speaks more in the kajkavski dialect, and my husband who mostly doesn't but does say "kaj" instead of "sto" pretty often. Knew I'd gotten some of the grammar wrong, but at least I was understood
I'm learning with occasional reference to books but mostly by trial and error with my husband as a tutor. He'll speak in Croatian until I get to a word I don't know and then explain what it means in Croatian too and so on. Not so efficient for conversation but I do learn things.

Abbe, I do envy your access to that kind of help, it must be the best way to go.
Can I prevail upon you folks for a little more help please? I'm looking for a way (simple as possible) to say.... "this way" as in "method of doing something"
Such as...
I like to do it this way.....
Most people do it this way....
What is the best way to do it?.....
The simplest way to say this would be of great assistance. Hvala vam.

'This way' or 'like this' is simply 'ovako' and of course you simply put ne in front if you want to say not like this, and samo if you want to say only like this. The examples above show it in use. Ribaric, you must really be putting in a lot of study time. I'm sure you know more Croatian than me and I've been living here a year. Unfortunately I'm not a dilligent student, and my wife speaks perfect english. I think I learn mostly from my 5 year old step daughter and television. I met an american who has worked here since 97 and still he only speaks 'tarzan croatian' . I understand a lot now, but just having put in the time to practise talking and constructing sentences, and my memory is so bad that I'm not sure if I'll ever get declanation right !

I lifted this from another site. Good luck
Ljubavi, tako mi jako falis... Voljela bi da si ovdje da me cvrsto primis, strastveno ljubis i milujes, da jezikom dodirnem svaki dio tebe i zapalim vatru u tebi, da mokra i uzdrhtala tijela nam se poje i postanemo jedno. I tako cijelu noc i sutradan...
In english Darling beloved, i miss you with every fibre of my being... I wish you were here to take me with all your strong manliness, to kiss me with lustful desire and cuddle me with tenderness, so i can wrap my tongue into every groove of your body and set you on fire, so that our soked and trembling bodies become one with the passion. And this to consume the whole night and all our following days...

Many thanks DejanI & Gavin. I had my weekly (when I'm in London) 1-2-1 lesson tonight and managed to talk right through without asking too much "kak se veli?" Your suggestions to use "ovako" were put to good use.
As for my skills, they really are mostly technical and grammatical, I can't understand much when I hear it becasue I don't yet get the exposure. I find HRT the easiest to understand. My theory at the outset of my project to expat myself, was to learn the grammar so that I can learn the language when I move to Croatia and understand which and why the declination is used the way it is. The trouble is, I can't talk to anyone much because I don't understand their replies. It's worse if I get the construction right because they think I'm a lot better than is the actual case. I need to build confidence with practice.
Creased me up "tarzan Croatian" Brilliant!
BTW, what is a "peder" as EMIZ calls me, if it's disgusting then I'm sorry.
