Has anyone else noticed that every now and then a box appears in someones message(last time being cuz) which displays your isp, and address and other info. I personally don't like it, can it be stopped by the admin of this site? i feel like I'm being spyed upon.

Well you are being spied upon; it is very easy to check anybodies Ip address.
Sorry but the internet is a very open form of communication, there is nowhere to hide; hence our little nationalist friend u2 is always so easy to see.

Gavin, just think about why you see your IP address in the posts from Cuz. Why don't you see the IP address of anyone else. The piece code displays only the IP address of the person viewing his post so therefore there is no real security issue above the normal issues when using the internet. However if it makes you think about security then it is fullfilling its purpose. With Proboards only the administrator can see the IP addresses of other posters. You may be more at risk posting on some of the other types of board where the admins are less experienced and do not set up the security effectively or keep it updated.

yeah but who is displaying this information to me, admin or cuz, or someone else?I don't think we should be investigating each others ip, lets leave that up to admin to deal with. And Emiz, you may see the ip is the same for some users, but i asure you that you have it wrong about some of them. It's easy enough to tell from the style of writing that they are not the same person. If your judgment of their inteligence is correct, then I don't think they would be smart enought to write in a completely different style, I'm refering to gs and u2. gs is obviously an ozy and u2 is not. I don't think the program your using is as smart as you think.

There is a difference; when i am at home; or on my laptop like now and most of the time; I can't check, so gs was a guess. There is a familiar pattern in the attitudes of all the kids who deserted Croatia it seems. However when I am in the office; my i.t man installed hardware and software to identify hackers and it also allows me to check other people. Ip's are easily fooled; wherever I am; when I use my laptop a false ip is sent out I do this because the net is full of hackers, there will be some fat little kid in la; who would love to get into mine and your pc...I am making sure he can't. One day cuz might get my I:P---one day

Emiz I have no issue with you publishing my IP address ..tell me what you can see and I will confirm if it is correct... My IP is dynamic and I would imagine alot of others would be dynamic therefore it will change but I'd be interested in seeing if you can actually see it.

But even when it is changing; It will always be easy to say where you are based. Sometimes the ip doesn't show at all and just a location, or if the person ha svery good internet security; nothing shows. As I said I only have it in the office; it was installed to stop people hacking the wireless internet.

He could be suffering from Schizophrenia and he himself may be U2 for all we know. Incidentally I think that Cuz's IP address is nothing more than a signature or something he has deliberately inserted. I tried pinging it and I was getting impossibly low responses like 1ms and 2ms ... weird !

so I did some searching and found this site www.ipchicken.com it's supposed to display your ip address as it appears on the internet if you're working through a network. So what it displays is not the ip of your computer, but of the network you're working through. I'm not all that computer savy when it comes to the in depth stuff, so I really don't know what it all means. Could explain why some peoples ips appear to be the same even if they're not the same person. Try it yourself, and I think you'll find that the ip it displays is not the 1 you think it should be.

There is no way, a person in usa and a person in oz could show the same ip address.

If you want to know what your "real" IP address is then do an ipconfig
start>run> type:cmd... then type: ipconfig then hit enter

Did anyone try ipchicken yet? turns out that the ip i see in cuzs post is also the ip shown when i go to ipchicken. I'd like to know if this is the same for others. I'm on a mac, and i don't know where to write that command you mentioned gs.
