We are a British company based in Jelsa, Hvar, with a wide range of properties for sale on the island, with ruins starting at 20,000 euros, going up to something a little more finished and a little more expensive... Feel free to drop us a line and look forward to seeing you on sunny Hvar soon. Best wishes, Paul www.croatianhouse.cominfo@croatianhouse.com

You could try the agency Parsain based in Hvar town. They have now updated their website, and have the pages in English. See: www.parsain.hr/eng/aboutus.aspxI bought my house through them without major problems. Steve

Clonmel, Be careful buying old houses on Islands that need up-dating.It may sound romantic but remember. If local workers are not available to complete work,Ferrying workers onto the island will cost you more,You will need a project Manager to oversee the work and to see the workers are showing up.My wifes friend had major problems with the latter as he worked on Good will and it back fire on him. Shipping building materials onto the Island will again cost extra. A Croatian told me if they are such a good deal why don't Croatians buy them? ?? Regards Jackeen

Steve,
How much did you pay for your house? Did you buy by creating a company or as a private individual? I'm also looking to buy...

JK,
I paid EUR 170K - The house was divided up into small rooms for letting and needed finishing off, hence I have since had a lot of building work carried out to get it to my requirements. This was done using a builder from Split who stayed in the place while doing the work - the local builders were either too busy, or much more expensive.
The purchase route was via my mother (who had to re-new her Croatian Citizenship) - She bought the house, and it was then transferred into my name.
