hi everybody. I believe if you want to rent out a property, then you need to apply for catagorization, i.e get permision and be on the tax payers list.
Can anyone expand on this as i'm a bit clueless, i.e. what papers you need and how to do it and how long does it take?

A question that has come up numerous times on this forum - and it's not an easy thing to go through...lots of red tape, lots of checks, fees, setting up a company, hiring someone with a tourism degree to run your rental for you....etc, etc. My advice would be to talk to Martin Westby. He gave a reply (below) to the same question before: "To rent out your property in Croatia you have to have a Croatian company licensed for letting. As you can see from the site...... www.croatia-holidayandhome.co.uk/rental-directory/prices-booking.html......by registering with Croatia Holiday and Home you have the facility to use our Croatian Company to become licensed to rent to holidaymakers in Croatia. This is included in the cost of listing with the directory either £45 or £85 depending on the package. Becoming licensed Following numerous conversations with Croatian experts we have created a process that should enable you to go to your local tourist office and self register your property for licensing. There are definite inconsistencies in this process varying from office to office, some people will have no problems at all, but unfortunately some people will experience difficulties. We recommend you allow sufficient time in the country to see through the application process, it can take anything up to 1-6 weeks from start to finish depending upon how busy your local inspector is. Should you decide to use us to licence your property, we shall send you all the paperwork that ensures that you are licensed but if you experience problems ,you have the peace of mind of knowing that we also have people on the ground to help you obtain your license. If you self license using my paperwork it should only cost around £80.00.Much cheaper than starting a Croatian Company! We have a system for private purchasers in split dalmatia region. I really do not recommend self registration, this is really terible advice and is rife with difficulties. If you have a property you are tax resident by the way. You need alot of paperwork but it can be done still. lawyers and accountants run so fast from these questions and do not really have the answers. You need a spet management company that deal with this area specifically and remember the interpretation of tourist act is different everywhere and from day to day. contact me and I will put you in touch with the relevant people if you would like.
