I was told today by the deputy mayor of Drnis that as of 2 days ago foreigners are not allowed to buy in Croatia. I was then told by our soon to be consul that this is a law on the books regarding price fixing or some such.
Then one of my colleagues who deals solely with property told me that this law is to come into effect in 30-60 days.
Anyone I've spoken with from MVP today said that there is no problem and it won't affect foreigners buying in.
Has anybody heard anything of this and if so, what is the deal. I'm in Zagreb Monday and am itching to ask some questions. I'm mainly worried as my Dad has just signed a pre-contract to buy an apartment in Sibenik with one of the local agents and now I don't know if he'll get it?

first time i heard of such a law... i'll check around tommorow (sunday's not good for calling people) and if i get some info i'll post it down
it just isn't very likely, cro getting the bid 4 EU entry, and then closing on property purchase? bleeet
it's probably that the dm of drnis got something wrong... mvp's are supposed to really know what's going on

Thanks z00ey, I just got back from Vodice and was feeling a little confused, as I have had so many stories from different people. I ended up calling my Dad to try get him out asap to sign the final contract before the window shuts. But the way I figure is, the dep of Drnis isn't the most reliable of fellows (much as I like the guy) and has a habit of talking before making sure he's sure, that's not a slag thing, just that he's a little too exciteable.
The min from mvp, who I spoke with, said there is nothing to worry about, or should I say I was otod no problem.
As soon as I hear the words, no problem, here I start to worry and lose hope. It's like mafe mushkilah in Arabia (means there's a heap coming down) or inshallah means, it'll never happen/I couldn't be bothered) and w'allah means, I'm lying but I'll swear to god in order to confuse you!

Irac, I find this very hard to believe, it would be financial suicide for Croatia to deter outside investment here. The EU talks don't start until tomorrow (Monday) and the main agenda is property, land, nekretnine etc. The government are planning to stop the sale of agricultural land, islands etc to foreigners, good move!

It didn't say that.
They agreed that they should be prepared to try and protect profitable hotels from mass buy outs and takeovers from global hotel chain groups, and protect the Croatian authenticity of the tourism product.
