Does anyone know what's happening with the development of this resort on Ugljan island? I know they had to put in for new planning because of the revised 70m coastal ruling, but it all seems to have gone quiet.
Any news/updates would be much appreciated.

I do not know what is happening with Olive Island, but it looks as though the same company had a 'project' on Hvar. They bought a lot of land, but it appears that they had problems with getting the permissions to put the infrastucture in place.
It looks as though the land which they bought is currently for sale as 'agriculural' land at development land prices.
They are still advertising the project on their website.
Draw your own conclusions...

In fact there are many properties along the croatian coast that were developed without the correct papers.
These guys sell the land at cheap prices and then develop and make their profit leaving the buyers with the hassle and the unhappy experience of watching their homes torn down.
The only way is to get a lawyer to check all the papers, both the actual papers and the register in the court and the land registry. Forgeries are also common here, even the court stamps!
Without that I would not go anywhere near buying.
A salesman's word in this country is just a load of bull and common sense and playing attention to detail are the only things that will give you both a good investment and save you from getting ripped off.

Olive Island Resort
the approval of the Urbanisation Plan of the Opcina Preko ( PPUO ) is still outstanding, as it looks like there will be minor changes in the Plan, approval should be granted within the next 2 - 3 weeks, one should know that there is a deadline for the PPUO's to be delivered latest by 31.12.05 to the Minister Of Enviroment and Building, if the communities fail to deliver by that deadline, the Minister has the right to dismiss the Community Board. In some cases this will happen for sure, steve's comment is not correct, the PPZ of the county of Zadar shows cleary the zoning for T1 and T2 in this plot, Deep Blue won the tender and of course in croatia nothing can go smooth, so the other participants filed an investigation and the out come sofar is no complaints from the Investigator that anything was wrong in the Tender Process......now like always in this country some needs patients.........to get somewhere, message to pipastro : yes you are right in general but regarding olive island, just wait and see before you come to a conclusion ....
