Simple answer: NOPE
As soon as they find out that you are a foreigner you will pay at least double the normal price, sometimes even triple the price..............and there is nothing you can do about it.
In my every day life I have to twist and turn myself into every possible position, but it doesn't help, the moment they find out that a foreigner is asking for information the euro/dollar signs come in their eyes and you are history.
It is sad, but this is the way this country is, they will milk the foreigners for everything they think the foreigner has.

CP Depends what you define as normal price, and i guess maybe where in the contry you are looking for appartmen. I had 3 appartments in Split untill now and 3 totally different experiences, With the two first appartments i rented i had, some not so perfect expirences, the appartment where i live in now is perfect, in relation to price, landlord etc. so yes it is possible, but you have to be a lucky.

Best way to find a suitable apartment for long term rent is to pick up the Butiga (istria + Kvarner) or the cooresponding magazine in Dalmatia and look at what is on offer. Then find yourself a Croatian who is willing to pose as the person who wants to rent the place. Let him/her go take a look, ask for the price and when all is done you go there yourself and check it out. That way you might be able to get a normal price, otherwise you will pay the price for foreigners. In any case you should calculate around 300 euro/month excl electricity/water etc.

E300 per month? I'm renting out a 55 sq/m modern flat here for 1000HRK per month + bills. I've calculated that selling it and investing in a simple bank/savings account would pay me more and without the hassle.

Where might that apt be ?
I just rented a house (2 bedroom, 1 kitchen/dining room, bathroom and 1 living room, no heating system and elec/water is separate) in a small village in the middle of nowhere for 300 euro. In Porec I had a small place for 350 euro and I can go on and on like that. Here in Istria you are really history the moment they realize you are a foreigner. Some even prefer to keep the place empty than to give it to you for a normal price.
And then to think that I used to rent a whole house (with garden etc) for the same price in Vicenza and also in the Caribbean. As if we can compare Istria to any one of these locations !
But then again, there is simply nothing you can do about it. The moment they see my car I know I don't even have to take a look anymore, I can see the dollar signs in their eyes.

cause they figure if were there in the first place, we must have been rich to have enough money to move there
after all the dealings with moving around the world..........you get pretty broke

I have a slight walking disability and walk with a cane. Since all my family has died I want to move to a warmer place so I do not have to deal with snow and ice in Canadian winters.Maybe I should be looking for someone who already lives somewhere along the coast and make a deal to rent space in part of their house long term.

Would it be possible to get an apartment for that price in Zagreb, and is there another website besides www.rentinzagreb.com that have a number of apartments that are available?

I know an apartment in Zapresic (just outside Zagreb), furnished, with parking lot, close to schools, supermarkets etc and the price is 2500 Kn/month (excl heating, elec, water). Wanted to rent it first myself, but owner wants to rent now and does not want to wait until the beginning of June.
