hallo. We are hoping to travel by public transport from Rovinj to Plitvice Lakes. We can not find an obvious route. Could you please advise us on the best way to do this journey. Thank you for your help.

I believe the bus route between Rijeka and Zagreb stops at Plitvice.
I don't know exact details but I am sure you could get a bus form Rovinj to Rijeka and connect to any Rijeka - Zagreb bus and get off at Plitvice.

I am sure that the bus route Rijeka - Zagreb does not stop at Plitvice. I have used this line a lot and it either goes via Gornje Jelenje or via a turning near the Krcki Most (the bridge that links the mainland to the island of KRK) direct to Zagreb via Karlovac. To be sure I would suggest contacting "Autotrans Rijeka" or "Croatia Bus Zagreb". They are the two main bus companies operating in the region. Their details are on this site.
Btw, have you tried any local tourist agencies in Rovinj? I can not speak about Rovinj, but on Punat on the island of Krk, the local tourist agency arranges direct visits to Plitvice, starting at 250 kune per person for one day.
Via Public Transport the only other routes I can think of are:
1. BUS: Rovinj - Rijeka; Rijeka - Otocac; Otocac - Plitvice
2. BUS: Rovinj - Pula - Rijeka - Karlovac; Karlovac - Plitvice
No 2 may be the easiest as there are a lot more bus services running between Rijeka and Karlovac and between Karlovac and Plitvice. Though I would think you would need about 5 hours to get to Karlovac from Rovinj and another 60 mins to get to Plitvice from Karlovac.
Hope this helps.
