What is the rule for foreigners married to Croats? I remeber reading that you need to be married to a Croat for 3 years, that seems far too liberal. Does anybody know for sure?

ok, this is the closest i could find. i didn't read it thoroughly, but maybe you can find some relevant info: www.nn.hr/clanci/sluzbeno/1991/1272.htmClanak 8. Clanak 10. Stranac koji je u braku s hrvatskim državljaninom i kojem je odobreno trajno nastanjenje na podrucju Republike Hrvatske, može priroðenjem steci hrvatsko državljanstvo iako ne udovoljava pretpostavkama iz clanka 8. stavka 1. tocaka 1-4. ovoga zakona. helpful now? although i still don't know the answer to your question - but from how i understand it, it could be less than 5 years (if you have a permanent residency and are married)

Come on Gavin, my Croatian is excellent ;D
Yes, if you're married to a Croat I believe that speaking the lingo is not required, If it's a lot of hassle Im not going to take it, just saves the hassle of visas.

Come on Gavin, my Croatian is excellent ;D so is mine don't give up so easily On what the language or the papers? The Croatian citizenship thing, it really doesn't give me any advantages other than saving the hassle of dealing with the visa idiots once a year. *It's almost impossible to say anything on here, too many words are banned*

Just do as I did, be nice to your local HDZ folks, until they think you have some influence and no morals, then they'll "invite" you to become a citizen, save the hassle of having to marry local ;D
