Shouldn’t take too long to fill this…. Okay the first entry Oliver Twist pub come on down… …..In a half empty bar I waited 20 mins for the waiter to reach me, then I waited another 15 mins, and my drink had still not appeared. 35 mins …in total..so I head to the bar…inquiring about my beer, there were 4 barmen waiters stood around chatting, I was rudely told will be with me when they are ready, I politely suggested they pull the pint now Anyway the pint was brought to me, I had ordered a pint of Heineken 20 or 25 kunas in price, so I was quite happy when a glass will a a Heineken label landed on my table, and the bill stated that it was indeed a pint of Heineken, until I tasted it, it was clearly a very bad and flat pint of erdinger, so I went back to the bar and explained that it was not Heineken, I was assured that it was, I said ok..i’ll have another pint of Heineken and pull it where I can see it…amazingly they had just run out of Heineken but I was offered a pint of erdinger for the price of 15kuna . Needless to say when I said I am not paying they didn’t argue.

Needless to say when I said I am not paying they didn’t argue. You were arguing that it was impossible to get a beer for less than 5 kunas. You got it for 0. Once again you were wrong.

I knew there was a reason I've always liked that place! ;D
No, really... Oliver Twist is a very cumfy, nice place. But I never drink alcohol, so I don't know or care about the beer. There or anywhere else.

Baschiera in Siget. Waited for my pizza for an hour or so and waiter was rather rude. I was there with a friend from the uk, all in all not a pleasant experience....felt like I needed to beat someone up or make a scene to get my food....by the time the food arrived neither of us felt like eating.

How did you come to that conclusion Sherlock? I had two sips and realised I had been lied to and cheated, I didn't drink it. It was also clearly a mixture of drip tray and fresh beer, avoid this place.

Midge a serious question now, you're a croat, had you not been with a brit would the terrible service have bothered you so much? Hopefully you don't accept bad service, because I sometimes feel I am on a one man compaign If people here cared about service it wouldn't be so bad, service in croat is as bad as anywhere in Europe.

Well it would definitely bother me, but being there with my brit friend made things even worse really. I suppose people here are used to mistreatment, so no one pays too much attention to it.

These people are not just rude, they are idiots, good service=good tip, bad service =no tip. Croats do not usually tip. That is a british and american thing. You are not required to tip. Maybe if that was the custom tipping in Cro, people would get better service?

I've only been going to Croatia since 1998 but the people who "introduced" me have always told me to tip 10% if everything is fine, 15% if they go the extra mile, 0% if things are not good. They did tell me to forget my "western" impatience as people expect to be in a restaurant for a couple of hours so the staff have that view in mind - indeed, they may think it to be hurrying you along if they pounce on you - American style. For me, I expect civility, someone who listens to me and maybe a friendly attitude. England was just as bad as Russia until Brits started going to Florida for cheap holidays and learned what good service was. It seems that societies that don't tip get the service they deserve.

Croatians do not tip we often just round off the bill and leave the bit of change. No certain percentage.... just can't be bothered with the small bit of change so we leave it.
Bigger restaurants add a service charge so you do not need to leave a tip.
Taxi drivers do not expect tip but they would appreciate one.
Foreigners leave tips because they are use to tipping in their own countries, plus I think that is okay for foreigners to leave tips, most make more money than the average Croatian so Croatians appreciate the tip.
If you do tip.... 10% is okay or whatever you feel the person deserves.
But do not feel uncomfortable in bar, cafe, pizza place not leaving tip.... we never do.... just round off bill and leave your small change if you want. ;D
Ask someone that lives in Croatia that is Croatian next time you are on holiday or if you have friends that live here that are Croatian ask them about tipping..... I bet my beer money they will tell you the same thing I just posted. ;D

Complete nonsense, as Ribaric said 10% is standard here for Croats and foreigners alike.
Maybe you are a cheap a$$ during your two week holidays, trust me you are the odd one out.

Like I said......
Foreigners and people on holiday leave tips.....
Not Croatians that live here..... Ask any Croatian that lives in Croatia.
We do not leave tips, especially if the bill has a service charge on it.
as for pizza places and cafe, bars.... like I said we just round up.
Emiz you would not know this because you don't live in Croatia..... I have no idea what country you are getting your so called experiences from but it sure the hell is not croatia.
