All these weeks later and the question still exists...is this what my original post has dissolved into? Let's get back to the topic!
Croatia is getting positive press because one of its stars is a character on a popular American TV show. Croam aspires to be a screen writer. He has a vast knowledge of life in the USA and Croatia. The advice I gave him is to 'write what you know'. So-Croam, this question is for you and only you, are you having success with your screen play? Would you consider integrating your Croatian knowledge/heritage/customs etc. into a script/plot/story line? Think about it!
All the best-AW

Yes of course i would be interested in integrating my background into a script/plot/story-line.
As far as "success" with my screenplay....success is a relative term, but this is what is going on with it...
I'm doing a second rewrite on my feature script in screenwriting class with Richard Leder who has had 17 of his scripts turned into movies and sold more than that. He's a real inspiration. I'm also starting an LLC through which i can produce my straight to dvd project about a little island in the outerbanks of nc. i will only sell the dvd on the island to tourists and if it takes off i will see a nice chunk of change from it. If not, the investment is very low.
I am also trying to decipher the Croatian Ministry of Culture's website to figure out how to download an application for funding for a project in croatia. I basically need to write a grant proposal but cannot locate the specific information/format of the grant proposal. Its definately not on the english version of the site and if it is on the croatian version then it is buried under 100 pages of other info and my reading/writing of Croatian is my weakest link. My spoken/comprehension is much stronger. (so if anyone can help me figure this out i would greatly appreciate it).
I have several ideas for pilots which could be shot relatively cheap in croatia and then sold but i am not familiar(yet) with the movers and shakers of the Croatian Media world. I have however watched the crap they air and can tell you they are starved for content. I guess its just cheaper to replay Italian soap operas and old jugo commie era films than to buy something new. Who knows? I need to figure out what is required for the grant proposal, the deadline, and where to send. I have a friend who has several times expressed interest in my filmmaking over there and they are pretty high up in the administration(government) so i figure if i can get them attached i could get something greenlighted alot easier than through the regular channels. I graduate in december and will also apply to AFI grad school as a backup plan. Thanks for your interest. If you register you can send me PM's.

I love DVR! It typed in keyword "croatia" and now it records any show with croatia in its description. I recorded THE FBI FILES show about ODPOR. I think they tried to say "croatian" as many times as they could, even though these were Croatian extremists and akin to calling all Irish people terrorists because of the IRA's actions. still cool to watch anything Croatian in the US.
Then there was a show called "Your own private island" about a couple who honeymoon's on Hvar. After watching that and working and viewing Taradise I am convinced I can make a better half or one hour show about Croatia and sell it to the US market. I just need a bit of dough but I'm working on that.
Lastly, I finally caught an episode of ER with Goran Visnjic, every woman's dream man, and thought it was cool that he was talking Croatian on his cell phone. Then he gets a call during an operation and his boss hangs up the phone and tells him to not worry about "third world matters" something along those lines. hahahahaha. the guy was a jerk to everyone so it wasn't a jab at croatia.
Anyways, i see now the ongoing subplot about a sick Croatian whom Goran will try to save. Cool stuff. In 50 years, your "average" american might actually know what Croatia is (a country). Nah, i don't think average americans will survive another 50 years and I certianly don't want them to know about our little "crescent secret."
