I know this is more of a Catholic thing - I was brought up to follow the Church of England, who don't do anything like this really. There is a link between hallowe'en and All Saints Day... "... In 835, Pope Gregory IV moved the celebration for all the martyrs (later all saints) from May 13 to November 1. The night before became known as All Hallow’s Even or “holy evening.” Eventually the name was shortened to the current Halloween. On November 2, the Church celebrates All Souls Day..." www.americancatholic.org/Messenger/Oct2001/Family.aspAnyhows, I'm sitting in at home right now with all the curtains drawn and barely any lights on - pretending not to be in so I don't get egged. Friggin' kids in south London these days!

carthan, it's interesting. well, i could've supposed there might be a link because all (or most) catholic holidays are at the same time when some other non-catholic holidays/festivities used to be. so people could more easily switch to the new religion. as for getting egged - i'm glad halloween isn't that popular here
