AH HA, got me at last, but I unlike some do not claim to be a Croat, and will remain an Englishman until I die. For better or worse. (actually I've had the cheese version, the meat one must be more Slavonia )

Hang on David, you're getting off the subject...you asked for good aspects of Croatia, but now you're starting to critique others' points and their opinions. Back on track to good things about Croatia, please. Ahem..this is my thread So you saying you started this thread so you can 'have go' at other peoples positive opinions? Very negative. I am student and education system here seems very good. Good relationship between student-teacher. People are very freindly and excepting to me. Zagreb is very clean and green. I see all time them cleaning streets at 3 am. Very safe on streets, low crime. Never seen gangs of thugs, we have many in Poland. Over all very beautiful country. Zagreb has nice old world charm. I like the wine. I think croatian pizza is better than italian pizza and quite cheap. I like the bean soup on sleme. I like that there is skiing just behid city on sleme in winter. Did I say people is friendly? Good comunity atmosphere. People are helpful when I ask. Good understanding of english. Better than most european countries. Cafe life style suits me, I like flower square where parents let there kids race around playing without having to worry. I like those little 'vikendica' house that many of my friends family have. Very back to nature, and yummy bbq. People have good attitude for making best of situation even when they have not so money. Allways can have a good time. Movies and tv not overdubbed like many EU countries. I like all the hiden court yards behind building in middle of city, some like stepping into country side strate off busy street. Most of all I think it is I just have very good feeling here. Specialy today as sun is shining and birds singing and little warm, feels like spring.

Well i won't bother repeating all that's been said already. I agree with it all. I will add that from a performers point of view the audiences here are very receptive and generous. I also like the fact that I'm involved with creating a new industry here that will see talented croatians being able to make a better living from there skills, not only within croatia, but also hopefuly throughout europe and the world.
I like the old trams, the new ones are strangley noisy and have a terribly generic modern design that is not at all suited to their surroundings. Why can't they build modern trams that look like old ones ? It would be much better for retaining the historical feeling of the city.

One day during the summer my girlfriend and I were shopping in Zagreb when she got the urge for some cake. (I just wanted a beer). Specifically, she wanted a certain type of cake from Ivica and Marica - can't remember which one it was.
To our disappointment they were closed for a couple of hours in the afternoon (as they do every day - siesta/coffee break). As an Englishman, I was accepting and suggested we go to the pub.
No. She wanted her cake. So she went next door to the restaurant (which is part of the same company) and asked nicely if we could just by some cake and eat it in the restaurant.
The manager there said that although Ivica and Marica was closed in the afternoons, the staff were still there cleaning and cooking. To my surprise he led us through the restaurant, through the connecting passageway (past the kitchen) and into the back of the cake shop.
He sat us down and took our order, all whilst the cafe was still closed. We had coffee and cakes in an empty, closed cafe while the staff were rushing around cleaning and baking.
Now that's service!
(and I tipped them well!)

you forgot to say that you like kulen ;D I also like it. The hotter the better. How come I didn't get one of those sla.. I mean wives that you mention. I wouldn't however change mine for any other. I like always being able to buy fresh bread products when walking home drunk at 3 am . I like the fact that excluding areas where there are mines, you can walk through the bush here without any fears of being bitten by anything deadly or majorly poisonous. Same goes for swimming in the sea.

Gav you alcohoilic!
Does youre head hurt today? I have been hung over and feeling the ill effects of Croatian Beer...... its all your fault.
There is a bakery on Savska, near the Movie Pub where you can get fresh bread from the oven in the early hours. Nice bun with a sausage and a choc roll.
As for the wild animals - there are wild pigs here. They are actually very dangerous animals and have nasty teeth. They are pretty common in the woods and forests.

Mate, they're just wee little piggies compared to the 'razor backs' of the outback. Besides big things worry me less than the little ones. You can see and hear the big things coming. Yep, i slept untill 1.30pm. There's something wrong with toceno pivo, bottled beer doesn't usually make me feel that bad.

They have big ones here too. More than 300kg big.
Yes, I felt so rough today. On a positive note:
After Gav got me drunk I forgot my jumper in the pub, I went this afternoon and they had looked after it and hung it up. That would never happen in the UK where theyd steal it at the earliest opportunity.
Did you all go out till the early hours?
