David, how can someone that puts forward their opinions be "clutching at straws"? Once again, get back on track, and stop "marking" people's answers. You know how..when his opinion is not actually an opinion but a subjective point somebody wants to prove as it benefits that person. To do so by saying, I want to live in Croatia because they beat Germany 3-0 in 1998 or to hear the words laku noc, or because of smelly trams is not a point. It is rubbish. This is exactly my point it has nothing to do with opinions in most cases, but subjective people spouting half truths, untruths or nonsense. Well, I don't plan to interfere discussion which doesn't considers me. But if keyed car, parking and motorway toll are arguments above rubbish and nonsense ... same are kulen and smelly trams. What is wrong with subjective people spouting ? For example ... US Congress Foreign Affairs Comity states that Croatia achieved progress on all levels, should immediately join NATO, and be generally awarded for it's achievements. While at same time US State Department claims Croatia haven't achieved any progress in anything and should be "downgraded" in all areas until 2008. Which one is subjective, and why ?

I never denied that people eat from bins, although I have never seen a 4 year old doing it. Unfortunately that is something that happens the world over, even in your beloved Britain. Shock horror, how could that be in such a rich country? I do care for croatian people, that's why I'm helping to create a viable industry for some of them that will eventualy see them earning a lot more money from their skills than they do now. In the process it will also add significanlty to croatias touristic offer. There's another thread where you can tell us what you're doing. If the last part is a charitable effort and not a private money making venture, I commend you. As for the first part, nobody should eat from a bin in England, the only people that do are people who have chosen or being forced out of the system. Illegal immigrants, people on the run, alcoholics, or sadly children who have ran away from home. May I add, I have NEVER EVER seen anybody eat from a bin in the uk, in Croatia a friend of mine and yours has his bins rifled through everyday. The day I seen the 4 year old girl eating from a bin was the closest I have been to crying in 15 years. That is when the two faced society of Croatia took a grip of me. We have a world leading social care system, which accounts for the reason we have so many asylum seekers, that is fine, we will help them in their hour of need and they will pay us back by being a good upstanding member of society that contributes and works hard. I could sit here for 50 years and refuse to work and I would never starve in England, I would be given free accommodation, enough money to live on and free medical care including drugs, not really comparable with Croatia.

4 year olds do eat from bins. Just go to the McD neat Ban Jelacic Square.
There are even mothers with month old babies sitting out there in winter. Its strange as its always the same woman and every year she has a new baby. I always think if she getting up the duff for income or does she not know about birth control......
I don't think that the trams are smelly, I actually quite like them. I disliked the underground in London in rush hour, but Zagreb is getting that way as they are not investing in enough new trams and its awful when its busy.
But then, in London you have to have a ticket and most people in ZG don't pay anything and ride for free, hence ZET not having enough cash to buy enough new ones (and the brand new ones - cro designed, break down before they are even a month old).

See, there you go Dave. We can actually agree on something. Social welfare in Croatia is terrible to non existent. I never said it wasn't. Unfortunately I have seen people eating food from bins in the UK and if for a minute you don't believe there are thousands of homeless people in Britain, then it is you who must wear blinkers. Also if you think people actually do that by choice, you're a funny old fellow indeed. Mainly it's a mental health issue. There are a lot of beggars here and the best thing to do is help them directly. Not with money, because most of that will go to the head of the family who will end up buying a mercedes. Give them food or clothing. That's what we do, especialy the ones with babies and small children, and always buy those little bunches of flowers from those old ladies. I doubt they get much of a pension. Also if you see street kids with their shirts or shoes off in winter out begging, you should report that to the nearest police man. I have actually found the street kids quite respectful here once you get to know them a little. When I first came they would dip their hands into my hat when I collect at the end of the show. It didn't take long before they stopped this practise, because I would let them play with some of my gear and try to teach them to juggle. Now they always greet me with smiles and salutations when I see them and know that if they don't try and steal from me, I'll get them something to eat.

So, you don't want to hear subjective viewpoints about living in Croatia (although you named this thread "The good side of Croatia" in the Off Topic board...which one is it?) and yet you come to a message board to converse with people that either live in Croatia or have strong connections to the country. I sure you guessed beforehand who would reply to you and what they would say.
Perhaps they'll cut out their subjectivity when you cut out yours.
You see, the main problem is that you obviously didn't start this thread as a positive one for everyone to share their experiences. You started it as YOUR thread to prove YOUR point, and this shows through very obviously.

I should rephrase that, it is not the trams that smell, it is a lot of the people, mostly men 40+ who feel that showering more than twice a week is not a thing the Balkans man should do. Regarding not paying for tram tickets, it is far too easy to get away scott free. I agree about the underground, it is full of rats, I hate it. Actually public transport is not something I enjoy at the best of times. I am told how good it is for the environment, then i see an empty bus pouring out black smoke like a forumla one car after the engine has blown.

Utter drivel, as I said on my first post, I was looking for something not random spouting, something that would educate me, only Croam came close. Are you meaning to tell me that Croatia is good to live in because they once won a football game? ooo P.S it is so obvious somebody has been telling tales to miss, I could bet my life who. Bless her.

That was just one point David, but you seem do be stuck on it. There is a large list of reasons there that you are choosing to ignor. It really does go a long way in showing the type of person you are.
On another note, several times you've had a go at others grasp of the english language so could you please stop writing 'I seen' It's 'I have seen' or 'I saw' .
Another thing I like about croatia is the fact that it has produced some world class football players. One of which has recently helped Australia qualify for the world cup, and quite often helps Boro win a match.

Your last post was full of spelling mistakes I never said a word. Viduka wasn't produced in Croatia he was born in Australia, he never does it for boro, he is lazy and has been a total flop. He is a sub, he was also rubbish yesterday and missed a pen. Would you like to list these world class footballers, I don't realise you were an expert of the beautiful game. I have to go now, but I will leave you with the only three world class footballers that come to mind in recent times. Prosenecki (German born) Boban Boksic Good players but not world class Suker Jarni The only players I would even consider very good at the moment are Srna, Simunic and Prso, Krancjar flatters to deceive. Lets be serious, the current Croatian team is rubbish. Now I love a bit of football debate, but I can't see how that improves life in Croatia, Maybe Irac can think of a few other world class players who I have missed out.

Okay David, having studied some of your posts, I've come up with an identikit means of responding to help everyone. 1) Completely negate what the other person has said, preferably in as few a words as possible. This MUST happen at the beginning of the post. 2) Half twist your original words, the more convoluted the better. 3) Forget who you originally agreed with, and pick someone else's name. 4) Take a random point out of the air and use it to put words it people's mouths. 5) Try and be clever at the end, and write something that sounds intriguing...but isn't true and doesn't make any sense either way. Okay, let me have a go: Utter drivel, as I said on my first post, I was looking for something not random spouting, something that would educate me, only Croam came close. Are you meaning to tell me that Croatia is good to live in because they once won a football game? ooo P.S it is so obvious somebody has been telling tales to miss, I could bet my life who. Bless her. Rubbish. As I said in my earlier message, you need to state CLEARLY what you want people to respond with, otherwise you'll never get the answers you intend, and you can't get annoyed if you don't. Only Roy seems to have got this through to you. Are you trying to tell me to tell you that you moved to Croatia because you like football? BTW, you know who says that he'll pick up the package later, just leave it round the back by the alfalfa plant, yeah? But could you try to avoid dropping it like you did last time?

I can't believe I forgot this one. I like the fact that Zagreb doesn't have a mass of skyscrapers casting shadows over the city streets.

okay ... I think everybody got it. You don't like it here, and this is perfectly okay with me, and as I see with everybody else ...
Personaly, I don't agree or disagree with you because I am Croatian and - "this is all what I have, as a metter of choice".
Fact is that nobody who comes in Croatia, is going to be forced with a gun to stay or to come back, if they decide to not like it here.
So, let me add this one to "good sides of Croatia".
