I have this little black book! So much for the UNITED Kingdom. London has everything, good and bad. If I were young, that's where I'd be....or maybe the Seychelles?.....But anything north of Peterborough is a bit dire.

Ribaric! and I had quite liked you from what you had written up to now! How can you have made such a typo? Everything south of Peterborough is a bit dire surely! Whenever I have to go to London for work I can't wait to get away again, it makes my skin crawl. And for all its famous attractions in a small bit of the centre, 95% of London is awful, worse than almost any northern town.
Maggie Thatcher, for all I may have hated everything else she said did say one thing true when she tried to get people to move away from the south-east. She said that the quality of life, beautiful countryside, cost of living were just so much better if you lived in the north. The Peak district, Lake district, best coast line in the country between Newcastle and Berwick, fantastic cities and night life and all the best football teams!
Still, persist in your southern fantasies I say, means that all those southerners don't go north and spoil it!

Well, I am from the U.S. and lving in the U.K. since July 2005. Yes, I like it here, I just am not sure why. Everything is done much faster in the U.S. Yes, it is a 27/7 society and more efficient than the U.K.
7-10 days for the broadband service in the U.K.?? Still not sure what the council tax payes for? Water should be metered. Most people can't answer my questions when I call about a problem with any service. My medical care s**ks, very little knowledge by the people providing the care. I worked in the medical field in the U.S. Everyone seems to think this is the way life is and there are no complaints, very complacent society. And something I never thought I would say is the crime is worse than in the U.S. But the people are very nice and polite, the drivers are very polite compared to the U.S. And no I am not pro U.S. we have LOTS of problems.
and I am enjoying my time here, however, would like to move to croatia for retirement.

What no one else posted? Must have proper jobs! Still who cares where you live really? Lots to do in the UK to be honest, lots to do in Croatia, you've just got to be a "lots to do" sort of person. Waffle, waffle. Expect there's lots to do in Iceland.

They've got mosques. Loadsamosques. You don't wanna mosque. You're gonna have a mosque. Maybe two. Plenty of work for mullahs, who don't speak English, in the mosques. Governemnet sponsored, supported and protected. And closely observed by MI5/6/7/8 and 9.

best things about the UK: beautiful scenery (especially the west coast of scotland), food from all round the world available all year round, london is a hub for flights to just about anywhere, being racist/ displaying racist tendancies is considered to be a bad thing, corruption is as low as its possible to get, the state collects its taxes efficiently and so it doesn't need to hike them to compensate for the cheaters, students are given the opportunity to get their degrees in a reasonable time, the benefits of low bureaucracy are understood and are made a definable goal, people who drive like idiots can't bribe a policeman. ... need i go on?
