John Prescott has recently stunned the culinary world by asking for beans on his curry. Is this the best of both worlds, or is this disgusting Also Jamie Oliver is popular in Croatia, does anyone know anything about this? My mother in law has started to present her food in a rather cool way

I assume you mean baked beans. If so, it seems a little strange to me. Nothing wrong with having fresh beans in a curry though.
Jamie Olivers books are available in croatian and they've played his shows on tv here. You should count yourself lucky to have such a progressive mother inlaw. I think his ethic of fresh ingredients relates rather well to croatian food.

Thanks!, yeah I mean baked beans, like pizza, you can't have pizza without baked beans and a beer. I think it's using them as a kind of sauce.
Jamie Oliver, yes she made grilled vegetables, with slightly burnt chicken and fresh herbs, with tomatoes and radish. Pucker! All arranged in a star! Lovely Jubbly

No comment yet from our man in Sibenik? Yes.....They watch Jamie (more tongue than an extinct dinosaur) Oliver. The Croats do. But, I have to report, as a scientific study, it goes in one ear and out the other. Juha and past fajole still rules. Some relative Croats we attempted to feed English roast chicken, with Bisto and stuffing. They came in full forensic body suits and picked at it with forceps. And gave 'the face.' Similar to Star Wars, 'Use the Force Luke, Use the Force.' But, on another occasion they walloped a Dolmio extra spicey bolognaise the Wife amazingly prepared. It was one of those evening when she had been praying a lot. Well, on her knees by several empty wine bottles. NB. Pateks madrass required. Beans. URGENT. S.O.S.

I dream of Heinz baked beans since we used up our last tin some months ago. Perhaps we should get together and import a van load.

If you miss them that much just drive to Tesco in nagykanisza (Hungary) it is only 2 hours from Zagreb. I have to say that since I have moved to Croatia I have stopped eating packaged food, the stores here are still not very good, but I don't miss beans and microwaveable meals.

If you can hang in there for a few more years there might be a time when there's a curry house in every seaside town once the flood of indian tourists starts and bollywood starts filming epics. "To woo tourists from India, Croatia is launching an aggressive publicity campaign and the Bollywood too will be invited to explore the best of the Mediterranean country. "We are launching this campaign in a very big way. After Chandigarh, we will soon be taking this campaign to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai," Croatian Ambassador to India Dino Debeljuh told reporters in Chandigarh on Saturday after flagging off a group of Indian tourists to his country." PM me if you want one. ;D mmmm digestive cookies Mcvities chocolate digestives are available in nearly every supermarket in Croatia now. Fray Benton's pies are vile, tea...hmmm I don't drink tea so I have no idea what brands you can buy in Croatia, or if they're good, you definitely cannot buy custard here, heinz ketchup is in most stores, marmite you can't buy, I have seen hp sauce, but I think it may have been bbq. The stores are slowly getting better, the problem I have with the stores is like all around the world people eat what they're used to eating and a lot of that is very low quality end products in Croatia. Very few supermarkets sell good cuts of meat and you have to be up with the chickens to get good food at the market. In Croatia, the supermarket experience is culled, I think the market is the only way to shop, the bread, fruit and milk only last a day or two, so you need to go to the shop everyday anyway.
