It is your choice, Ray. Not every Croat is like those who posted defensively on the EMIZ anti-Croatia thread. In fact most who posted there were actually diasporo who could bear no negative comment on the old country because it was like telling a child that santa claus does not exist. People who live here know the reality and its just a question of whether they wish to air their dirty linen in public or not. It is easy to see why people don't like foreigners telling them what is wrong with their country though.

It is easy to see why people don't like foreigners telling them what is wrong with their country though. Point taken ; they seem also not to much like their own folk ( e.g. I am Zagreb-born and have a Domovnica ! ) saying or intimating that anything could ever be wrong about the same country ( and especially any such criticism - justified or not ! - coming from those more educated , experienced , independent and well-travelled ones ! )

I have noticed that Croats who had the audicity to leave and make a success of their lives, are not welcomed back with open arms...

Agh , Shame !!!! ( World-famed SethEffrikken expression , meaning : but Absolutely Nothing , like the "shame" it proclaims ) ; no surprise , that we don't visit there too often ( as we usually end our visits : quite so dissapointed , with both people 's attitudes and goods/services offerred and over-charged for ! ) On a different note , which might yet be of some useful interest to some of you , down by the Mediterrean seas : = Belgian , Dutch and German press , these days , all have reported columns & comumns about the ( more-affluent ! ) northern Europeans from these-here-parts avoiding the Rip-Off Mediterranean , of Anno 2008 ! Especially : Greece , Italy , HR are reported to be amongst the most affected/avoided , on bases of high pricings and unacceptably poor service/s ! ( sic ! ) ; in comparison to which , the windy , sandy , CLEAN Atlantic beaches of Belgium and Normandy , all the Loooong way to Bordeaux and Basque Countries , appear to be enjoying their ever best-est summer-season , since the World War II '....as in : you payz your moneyz , you know what Good Stuff you getz , and that's for blerry sure ...etc.... Historia Magistra Vitae Est ?

I have noticed that Croats who had the audicity to leave and make a success of their lives, are not welcomed back with open arms... This is not entirely true. I have found that the ones who come back and splash their Euros, Dollars or Pounds around are usually welcomed. But they are generally regarded as 'not very bright' by the locals.

I just love how we all can get off the subject.. . lol.
Splash. . . how about just buying what we want. Just because we worked off our butts. . . saved. . . now in the later years of our lives we can live the way we want.
The locals had the same opportunity to leave. . . not very bright. . they why are they jealous?
