My husband may have the chance to work at the following address: Dr. Franje Tudmana bb, HR-21212 Kaštel Sucerac, Croatia. I have been struggling to find this area on a map, can anyone advise me on where abouts the town is in Croatia. Also, it would mean that I would go with him with our 2 children - 3 1/2 and 2 1/2. I have heard that Croatia is a beautiful country, can anyone give me any idea on how easy it would be for me and the children to settle in, especially as my husband is likely to be working long days. How easy is the language to learn? Do a lot of people speak English there as well? How safe is it in Croatia now? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.... Claire.

I've not been, but it is 10km from Split near the industrial area. English is widely spoken, particularly in places like Split. Croatian is not an easy language to learn for English speakers and I have a long way to go. Croatia is generally safer than the USA or UK for instance and has much less crime. Health facilities are excellent and far cheaper than in the UK. Both my (state) doctor and dentist speak English. Prices of many things are much cheaper in Croatia and a western salary will go further than at home.

You can find exact location if you go to Croatian on line phone book at: www.htnet.hr/imenik/Click "Engleski" for English version. In the field "Search for" type name of the person, company or phone number and in the revery *friendly* persons you'll get a link for a digital map of that location. For phone numbers you have to type full number with area code, for example: 051987654 (if the phone nuber is 051 987654) Hope this helps.

I don't know why the word "results" in my post has been replaced with "revery *friendly* persons "

Proboards have a word swap facility for administrators, mainly used to stop the use of swear words etc. It looks like there may be a spurious entry there against the word that you wnated to use. Anna can change this if it is the case.

Thanks very much for all the help and advice given. I will have a look at the website mentioned to get a pinpoint of location. If I have any other questions regarding the practicality of moving over there, I know where to come!! Claire.

Kastel Sucurac is where the big chemical factory is that you can see on the way from the airport to Split. The other villages of Kastela are not too bad with the ones nearer to the airport having more character and tourism. The Hotel Palas is in Kastel Stari which is about 6km from Sucurac. Loads of private accommodation in the area as well. Check out the latest info re the quality of the water in Kastel Bay because a while back there was something about it in one of the Croatian newspapers.

To Robert, about the word-replacement in your message:
Yes, Graham is right, there is a word swap facility to get rid of inoffensive and swear words. I think there was probably a typo in your orginial message in the word "results" (think of the 's' and the 'l' swapping places), which caused "very *friendly* persons" to be tagged on to the end of re-.

Thank you Ana and Graham for the explanation. Yes, I can see what can happen when letters swapping places in "results". Probably it was the "u" and "l" in "results" who swop places ;D
