Notaries are at least as trustworthy as lawyers in Croatia. be aware that there are not the same standards of service or professional responsibility in Croatia that there are in the UK. So don't expect that lawyers will be proactive or take responsibility for problems they cause due to negligence. They might help, but then they might not and if they do not, you will have absolutely no recourse to law or a professional body to force them to face up to the consequences of their errors.
If you do go with a lawyer, then you don't need a local. Any lawyer will do as long as they are in Croatia because they can send the application by registered post to the court. I am not convinced you need a local accountant either...

Hi We're making progress We've enlisted the help of a local notar to take us through the whole process of setting up the company. (after we've gone through the process, I can let you know how it went, what it cost, etc). But now we've got a bit of a dilemma.... (surprise surprise) We're being asked to nominate the names of the founder(s) and director(s). Ideally I'd like for both my husband and myself to be the joint founders and directors. But I want any rental income/profit to come to me only, not my husband. NO, not because I'm trying to rip off my husband but because I don't have any income in the UK, whereas my husband does, so its more tax efficient in the UK for me to get any income, if that makes sense. (if my husband received any income from it, he'd pay a higher rate of income tax because it would push his earnings above the basic rate). Can anyone shed any light? Does it matter if we are both founders and directors? Also are there any weird directors' obligations that we should know about? Many thanks!! YP
