Wondering if you could give us some advice. Would it more make sense to go down the coast from istria down to dubrovnik and then zagreb at the very end before flying back to london or should one start in zagreb and then go to istria and then down the coast? I am planning to fly direct from london to rijeka. is that the most efficient way of getting there from london? Many thanks indeed

From my experience, flying from London to Rijeka takes about 1 hr 45 mins, while to Zagreb its about 2 hrs 10 mins. If it is a flight to Zagreb via Rijeka add another 20-30 mins to the journey for people dissembarking and the luggage being removed. If flying into Rijeka Airport, to get to Dubrovnik you will need to get to the main bus station in Rijeka. For bus services to Dubrovnik, I would suggest looking at the website for Autotrans Rijeka www.autotrans.hr as they run most of the bus services in/out of Istria. They should have a contact number for the bus station in rijeka and I am sure they can give you more bus info. But I've been told it can take between 11-12 hours to Dubrovnik. Btw, the airport itself is situated at the entrance to the island of Krk. By bus it will take about 40 mins to get to Rijeka. You could also get a taxi to Rijeka, but I do not know how much that would cost. Zagreb to Rijeka by bus takes about 3 1/2 hrs max. With the new highway open it does not take as long as before. Zagreb Airport is about 40 mins from the Zagreb Bus terminal. There are direct bus services from Zagreb to Dubrovnik which take between 11 to 12 hrs. Check www.akz.hr for info. HTH
