This is an interesting article. Obviously I think that the economic crisis is partly to blame, but maybe croatia should invest in some more propaganda in this area. I don't think many people in europe are attracted to living in croatia or buying a house there, but if they knew more about it then they would be more interested. I think this whole situation will improve as the economy improves.

With the prices as they are, plus loads of legalities (even if you’re fortunate enough to be an EU member), and the downturn, things aren't great. If things go in the direction they are, in about a year it just might be a buyers market. I wouldn't say it is right now, as sellers are still asking too much. There are plenty of FOR SALE signs up, but no buyers.
Seems, commercial buildings are still going ahead and being built, while apartments and similar projects are put on hold.
There’s a real stupid method in place when buying land to build that house of your dreams that I have found puts off a lot of buyers. That is, to get your name put in the land registry as the owner, you have to have a detailed plan of the building you plan to build, have it certified, and then you have to pay the first instalment of communal taxes. The other stupid law is that you then have to start building within 2 years. There’s no quick fix or purchase.
