About 3 days away from finishing my guide book Hvar: An Insider's Guide to Croatia's Premier Island, and would like to have some short, sharp and poignant Dalmatian (preferably Hvar) proverbs as part of the intro.
Any suggestions?
Cheers Paul

"when tourist looks like he has lots of cash - tell him your credit card machine is not working"
I've heard that 'proverb' many times in Hvar town !!!!!

Well done for producing this book. Hopefully it will keep all of the backpackers away from Brac My mother-in-law, from Brac, is prone to say ' you dont buy a goat and only milk it once' when refering to the wine and so on that she sells to tourists. She has a good reputation because she does not resort to some of the stunts that other locals pull such as diluting the Olive Oil with cheaper vegetable oil or selling very substandard wine or grappa and has people coming back to her, year after year.

Ha Ha, i know what you mean about Hvar Town - I rarely go there and am always shocked at the prices when i do. There are some cheaper places though - in fact an Aussie backpacker place opened last week and i even managed to find a cold half litre with sea view just off the square for 20 kuna. Yes, outrageous, but very cheap for Hvar Town. Cocktails at Carpe Diem were in the 43-63 kuna range.
Matov, thanks for that - will try and get all the backpackers to Hvar Town and the full moon parties on the Pakleni so we can have a relaxing summer. Just started a FB group (Hvar Guide) for anyone interested in the book. It will be released on Kindle this w/e and as an eBook, app and paperback in the next few weeks.
Cheers Paul

Primorski Proverb: Ivo tells Zoran: May you live to be 100 years. Zoran answers: May you be the guest of honor at my funeral.
