The mystique has gone now.... apart from the question as to how gmh knows so much about girly websites.
Sorry Ray, back to business..... I've just discovered a local employer who chooses, sometimes at 24 hours notice, when his employees will take their holidays. It is entirely associated with the state of his order book. Probably illegal but who will do anything about it?

No mystery Rib, I just used tin eye to reverse image search your lady. Agrokor employs masses of 'seasonal workers'. My brother inlaw is one of them. He works 3 months and then he's unemployed 2-3 months whilst some other seasonal worker is doing his job. This way, they avoid paying social security to the government and save a lot of money. Perfectly legal, but pretty dodgy if you ask me.

The one thing that really gets my back up more than anything else is the "shoulder-shrug" attitude of many Croatians, usually accompanied with the comment "Oh well what can you do" or "There is no point, nothing can be done" To many people here seem to accept that their Govt control them and not the other way around. Sad. Sooo true MG... I have been here 3 yrs (I know its not long), but from my first discussion about things...I have constantly been given the impression that most people are ok to just comply because other countries are worse off, or the use the excuses that you mentioned!! someone else mentioned "Most protests I have seen in Croatia never go anywhere or reach their purpose" which is true again...I have never seen a gov. simply ignore so many protests as easily as Croatia's (just wait...and a few days later and all those die-hard protests disintegrate, dont help neither) I said it before and i will say it again...I cannot see this gov. changing to be fairer (maybe the E.U)...the people need to riot or have somekind of revoloution....just my opinion!!!

Referring to Karl's thread... visitcroatia.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=living&thread=8922&page=1Here is another probable squeeze on people who, like the Greeks et al, are already pretty much crushed. I can envisage Čačić and his bean counters totting up how much additional income all this will provide but without a thought as to the human and social consequences. By the time you take off the income which no longer comes from the employed and SMEs (much fewer in number), they'll be lucky to get anything. I'm sounding more like a commie every day!

and anuvva fing....
Calcedonija, an Italian based bras and knickers manuafacturer (Mrs Calcedonia is from VZ so I guess that's how we got the factories) now runs a two-shift system where the staff work only six hours. You guessed it, it's the legal limit before staff must be given a meal break. Smart.
