Can anyone recommend a good property lawyer who can help give advice and maybe take on a property dispute? It concerns a problem with the land registry. Thanks.

Ribaric is right i.e. the answer is always a local lawyer with good connections to the land registry in question. IYou'll be increasing your problems if you get someone from outwith the area.

What type of pickle did you get yourself into? A wall dispute, land dispute or does someone else own the property you just bought? My landlord has a bunch of land out back his house and his neighbour built a wall 1 meter onto his property about 10 years ago. The case is still on-going, although he isn't desperate or has a lawyer on the case. I think what will happen is a bulldozer will fix the problem one day.

Basically we need to dispute the land registry (opcina) on Mali Losinj. We tried local lawyers but none of them would take it! "Losinj is a small place". We currently have a lawyer based in Rijeka but I wanted to get a second opinion.

Sorry Philjeffcott, this doesn't look good at all. My friend on Losinj tells me that lawyers there will not argue any case against the local opcina because their very livelihoods rest on them having good contacts in the town hall. Hell, they are all neighbours, maybe even cousins! Even if one did, there would be a bland meeting where the official would explain in the vaguest detail why they decided what they did. This would be relayed to you, at some cost of course, and there the matter will remain forever.
I suspect your lawyer in Rijeka is being frozen out by the local mafia and will get only the wooliest of answers and only after huge time delays.
Welcome to small town life. I don't know if Croatia is that much different to anywhere else. I suspect it is though.
BTW: This is one of the reasons why nobody does anything, they all know the score before they enter into anything and realise that nothing will ever happen - so why waste time trying to achieve anything? Sorry, but my original rosy demeanour about Croatia has been beaten to death by my experiences.

We need to compare notes. ;D Recently someone from Italy said to me; You can laugh, smile and grin in the face of adversity, stupidity and idiotic bureaucracy but eventually someone will smash your teeth in. ;D Its always darkest just before the dawn.......

JD Dear Hopeful.............with a touch of luck you are still around and visiting this blog? We are looking for a good (and competent) English speaking Lawyer to represent us in a domestic/neighbour conflict case on the Island of Korcula. Split is fairly close and it sounds as though Nora may be the right person, do you know whether she handles such civil cases and do you have her contact details? Many thanks Mijbil
