Hi,
Can anyone give advise/recommend lawyers on this:
We have purchased a secondary residence (flat) in a ‘palace’ that used to belong to the Italian aristocracy before being nationalized under Tito (family named Borelli). The flat is located in Zadar.
The Borellis, after a very long court case, have been ‘compensated’ by the Croatian state, by being granted the attic of the house where we live (the whole surface has been divided into about 10 descendants!), which was used until then by all tenants as shared property to store various stuff.
I have good reasons to think that the Zadar city authorities have been hiding this decision from us (as we have been asking them repeatedly for updates and guidance on this court case since 2008). Their answers had repeatedly been that a) the attic was common property – just as stairs and corridors and could never be ‘transformed’/’registered’ as a flat, b) that the decision was still not taken (they gave us this answer while the decision had already been taken for 2 years!), c) that no flat could be installed upstairs (as it would require to change the structure of the building, which is not possible, given its an A-grade building that is registered as national patrimony).
We have ‘discovered’ what had been going on, when one day, a team of workers had drilled a hole into the ceiling of the 2nd floor (in the corridor that leads to our flat, with new stairs into the attic), and locked everyone from accessing the attic.
I think we need a lawyer on this. My experience of the lawyers in Zadar (who have connections with regards to property case matters) has not been great so far (the 2 best ones are advising the Borellis, and the 3rd one is plain corrupt).
In any case, the appeal authorities are located in Zagreb (even though the decision was taken by Zadar authorities).
