Have a good one for you all today. The property I purchased did not come with its own electricity and water supply. I share the electricity bill/supply with my neighbour (lovely chap) and my water supply with the developer (not a lovely chap). The water meter is in my company name and I share a pipe with the developer and pay his bill. Ideally I would like to disconnect the developer from my supply and install new pipes off my meter into my apartment. The devloper would then need to get his own meter as there is room currently for one more. The issue is the devloper lives in his apartment all year round and is impossible to get money out of. My question for you all: 1) how do I stand legally regarding buying the apartment, and not provided with my own electric or water supply ? (assuming the purchase was made with a standard real estate contract) 2) Have any of you had similiar issues ? 3) Are there any legal consequences of me disconnecting the developer ? 4) How difficult/costly would it be for him to get a new meter? Does it require any council fees etc ? 5) What would you good people do in my case? Regards D

Too tempting not to get involved... Contracts... Waste of time with regards to your rights.. The legal system is just way too weak... I would probably, install a new water with meter for myself.. And disconnect myself from existing one and ask landlord to take over, if he wants or get it shut off. I think the cost of new etres are not that high especially if it bothers you paying this guys bill.. Well that depends on if you did not commit to paying for water as part of your purchase price...
