So Gotovina was freed a little while ago and I already heard car horns honking and people waving flags outside.
I predict he will now return to Croatia as a Hero, be welcomed into the folds of HDZ and end up with some kind of political position some time in the next 5 years.

Seems today if you spent some time in prison, have a criminal record, extorted money, bribed, dealt in corruption then one is a wonderful candidate to run for a governmental job, be it mayor, minister or even PM.

Maybe just what HR needs, someone who is respected (I assume?) for his efforts on behalf of his country.
Does he have political ambitions?
Does he have any non military experience?

He doesn't have any non military experience. Just a lot of military experience. Minister for Defence then for him. This is also not the first time he's been jailed and then freed. Apparently he served time in France before returning to Croatia during the war.

Apparently he served time in France before returning to Croatia during the war. Seems he was into borrowing jewel (without asking) at one time and a bit of a thug (when in France) then a military man, which helped mold him into the guy he is today (to some a "hero"). He has a checkered past (outside being a war hero). But, if it makes people happy then all the best. Just not sure if he would be right guy for a governmental position (although we all live and learn).

Shame on all of you! Now when greatest Croatian hero is free I hope he will finally get his head post of Revenue and Tax Collection Office and finish the job he started in 1991.
God and the Croats!

A sada dođimo do teme cajke!

"God and the Croats!"... you mean Croats then God! But, no shame. I am that I am in Croatia with no help from the government or that much from actual Croats (except for a few normal folks out there not distorted by nationalistic pride or corruption or a sob story).

I respected him before mostly because he didn't meddle into politics, so if he's smart he will stick to it. It would be a shame if he now ended up in prison for a simple thing like doing someone a favor while in political position, which could happen considering his total inexperience.

If he is smart he wouldn't touch politics with a barge pole...hero to zero if he did...name me one respected politician? Because of the system he would end up powerless and have to toe the line. Gotovina is a hero. Defended his country. If anyone should be locked up its Bush and Blair..instigators of war's, not defenders.

Blair was actually doing a lot of good for normal folks till he started beating around the Bush.

Castro (ex general) seems to be loved by his fellow inmates.

It is a rather unusal post..think its been lost in translation, or at least I hope that is the case.

Nothing was lost in translation! After finalising our dealings with Hungarians, Turks, Venetians, Austrians and Serbs, it is time to get property market and tax collection under Croatian control.
