I was in Split for New Year. There's a 'Pizza Cut' near the riva, and boy was it jammed. 10 KN a slice. 2 staff (a waitress and a cook). They must have been turning over at least £200 an hour. Tough competition. The surrounding restaurants / eateries were empty. Or try the Fries Factory, started in Rijeka and now offered as a franchise, with a few locations in Zagreb (I think it used to be know as Surf & Fries, but since joining the EU seems they had to change their name? ?). I say this as many of the locations that used to be Surf'n Fries are now names the Fries Factory. Another great concept (while not new) but a pure success is the Cookie Factory in Zagreb. Hot fudge brownies with cold ice cream in a big bowl. So, who knows a juice factory might work. I have a friend in Serbia who opened a coffee shop on a dime and a prayer and now it's successful, of course they did all the interior building, refurbishing themselves and three years of very hard work.

Been there, done that.......having started a business in Rijeka some 20 odd years ago we were full of optimism that the country needed our "expertise" and held a great desire to help an emerging economy . Wrong, I won't go into the details of cost/losses/depressions etc. only to say that Croatia is no place for an Englishmen to do business..........the locals are lot smarter than you give them credit for and by and large we are girl thingy cats in comparison. Now, number of years later, living on the Island of Korcula, retired and not reliant on business here for an income (and a lot smarter !) all is pretty d**n cool. Having lived in the UK, South Africa, Qatar, Dubai, Oman etc etc this is one of the more "doable" countries we have lived in :-)

The crowd funding is a new concept for Split ... I'm not sure how much Split customers would be willing to invest like this in a new business, especially to the tune of $64000.

I heard they gave up. Its a case of another one bites the dust which is sad when you think about it.

The Facebook page shows they've been in Split for 6/7 months.

According to their Facebook page this morning, they are busy helping to "pave the way for foreign entrepreneurs in Split" , what do they think we've all been doing for the last 15 years ?

According to their Facebook page this morning, they are busy helping to "pave the way for foreign entrepreneurs in Split" , what do they think we've all been doing for the last 15 years ? Are they actually in Split now? Did they manage to defy the odds and open a juice cafe? What is their facebook page? My hat goes off to them if they did succeed. I've been watching a bubble tea shop that opened a while back in Arena and still scratching my head as to how they can survive (another one of the food court shops also offers them at like 2 Kuna cheaper). Some of you might have seen the Alibaba food court store has close down. That was owned by the famous black comedian fellow often seen on Croatian TV (forgot his name)... the show where they sit in a classroom environment. Not seen any coffee shops close yet, so I sense this is a winning business in Croatia.
