What the EU ruling party don't understand here is that this was a vote by the Swiss people (a majority) as no doubt they fully understand the consequences of what mass immigration can have on it's citizens work prospects and way of life. Even Croatia has put a maximum 5000 work permits for 2014. The UK is reeling from mass immigration. Doubt very many European countries would appreciate millions of immigrants to flood their country, taking jobs from students and those on the lower end of the work ladder. Lets see what the EU will do in retaliation against the peoples vote (which the unelected EU bureaucrats hate)! www.croatiantimes.com/news/Business/2014-02-17/35104/Switzerland_does_not_allow_free_access_to_employment_market_for_Croats

What has EU got to do with Switzerland?

What has EU got to do with Switzerland? The Swiss pay the EU a fixed tariff so they can trade without import/export taxes, they prefer to do this rather than be a member. However, there are a number of guarantees the Swiss agreed as part of the deal which includes a federal acceptance of the freedom of labour. Indeed, "federal" Switzerland does allow freedom of movement but the cantons do not - catch 22.

Also the Swiss government allows the people to have a bit more say then the EU (who don't tolerate the peoples vote) and allow their people a bit more "majority vote to rule" (as long as it don't affect the Swiss banks I'm sure). As you probably know, Switzerland still has a border (much like the UK), but the UK one is much more open and the UK government loves to cow tail to the EU.

Cow tail or kow tow??!
In the UK, its the people at the bottom end who are having difficulties because of the influx of "furriners". Jobs are harder to get, school places are like gold dust, hospital queues are longer, its harder to get a GP appointment and obviously demand for accommodation has jumped considerably, thus pushing prices up. Personally, I wouldn't like to have a car accident with anyone but my heart would sink even further if I had reason to doubt that the other driver may not have insurance.
