I'm Croatian American and will be staying in my parents home for a few months on one of the islands off the Dalmatian coast. I need to take a few laptops for work and require a secure internet connection from the house. My parents do not have a landline.
Is there any alternative to those USB WiFi sticks from VIP/T-Com? I find them unreliable. MiFi (those palm-sized personal WiFis) rental is too pricey at $10/day.
Hvala!

You are saying that you need internet access, and are asking how to get it? As far as I know there are only two ways to get it anywhere in the world: fixed line or mobile technology. If fixed line is out, then you are left with the mobile option. However, that's far from reliable anywhere in the world, and I don't suppose a Croatian island will have an especially strong signal. Mobile 3G was certainly useless to us in the office on the mainland.
I'd say try to get the fixed line option but if it means laying cables, you might well need to get the order in asap (and then keep your fingers crossed about getting it done in time!).
Maybe I have misunderstood the question?

Sometimes booster aerials will work but you need the neighbours cooperation to put up an aerial on the side of his house; Americans do this quite well so you could talk to a spet before you arrive. There is a lag on satellite that you might find unacceptable Best of luck

My small village has a wifi system broadcast from one of the houses and picked up using a roof aerial and booster amplifier. Costs are very reasonable and someone came to do the installation for me so it was simple enough.

Bon Bon offer 5gb cellular internet for 45kn. Depends which island you are located for signal quality/strength, I'm getting decent signal on Brac.

You can buy a Mifi of your own for very little 35 Euro and then buy a Pay as you go Sim. VIP do a great deal I think it is euro 12 for unlimited Wifi for 2 weeks (or similar, you'd have to look it up. You can then buy a Sim for wherever else in the world you go. As long as there is a good cell signal you'll have wifi.

Hi, I saw that you wrote, that you are not interested in Mifi device, but i saw commercial this summer for Croatian company that rents this devices roamfree.ninja/, and what suprised me is alowance of 75 GB per week, which i didn't see at similar providers in world. When I travel I always rents this devices because they work great, i have internet in my pocket, no roaming, and if we travel in gorup, it is very cheap, like 2 EUR per person/per day. cheers

If one can go over 75GB per day then I would think that person has a very bad addiction!
